:rotfl:Oh. Funny. Who was it, BTW? Thanks for helping me remember....I should know by now, most of that stuff is spam and rumor. Good fodder, though.

Love Limbaugh?

Love Hillary?

Neither good lovers in my opinion. I don't remember the hillary hate mail, though. Was it good? :D

If it was about Hillary and dealt with her shortcomings, it had to be good. In fairness, so far I have been impressed with her performance as Secretary of State. It has been far better than that of Madeline Albright, who was a disaster IMO.

Just some thoughts and while I am not necessarily advocating it, I wonder what would happen and what the opinion of us throughout the world would be: IF we pulled every military person from all bases not in the country, cut all foreign aid to all countries unless there was a quid pro quo attached to it and greatly curtailed any material goods being donated to foreign sources. Though it will never happen, I'll bet the results would be interesting.

Here's my guess:

The first response would be to condemn our actions - loudly, often, and in unison. Then, we would be asked to pay restitution for are the hardship that follows.

And if we really did such a thing, the suffering would be monumental. Aggressive countries/leaders would bully and/or take over those territories/peoples that have relied on our protection instead of their own. Internal conflict in a variety of countries would quickly get out of hand. Economies would collapse further.

I envision outcomes like that of Zimbabwe when Robert Mugabe seized farms and began to redistribute land.

I imagine that any one of those three acts would have similar results alone and be completely catastrophic together.

I do think we could slowly remove our military from most other countries. It would take negotiation, money, and time. I doubt we will ever be able to cut foreign aid - I foresee it mounting instead. Ditto material aid.

Bob: I like Hillary and had a lot of respect for her as First Lady. I thought she worked well with Bush. And, I believe she'll do a great job as Sec. of State.

Winnie: I agree; I think it would be catastrophic. Talk about mayhem......on the other hand, if we wanted to expand our territories, that would be one strtegy. But, do the recipients of our good nature know, believe or even care just how far we go for them....inclusive of some of our own citizens?

Good question Lynnie! You've gotten me thinking some more.

We give 2 or 3 times more than the next largest donor country, Germany. However, as percentage of GDP we are lower than many other countries. So...what if foreign aid were like US taxes? The United States would need to give what? 20% of GDP or so? Or would we need to pay about 40% of all foreign aid given? (I'm likening the US to the top 1% of income earners in the US tax system)

I know. Brad Pitt and his One! If you were a developing nation, would you want $$ from the country that gives the most? Or, from the country that is much smaller and gives 1% or more.

$ for $, which is more $ for the recipient? We just promised $1TR to foreign aid. That's dollars we will have to print......or, become even more socialized to gain the 'tax dollars' to give abroad.

And, our GDP is so low right now.
