What experience is that?
It happened in Leon County and Bay County, when the jail was under the Sheriff's control anyone who publicly spoke out against them or made trouble for them was generally arrested on an erroneous charge. They were thrown into a cell with several malcontents and the next morning usually found dead with no witnesses.
Hopefully this won't get as bad as Bay County. When the BCC there removed it from his control one of the commissioner's neighbors received an anonymous call that they should leave as the commissioner's house was going to explode. It didn't, but what's wrong with separating the jail from the Sheriff's office?
