All of the kids around here have Verizon because you get the free in-calling and the unlimited texting for 5.99/month. If you don't have Verizon, you are the "social outcast." and your friends will cut you off from texting and phoning because they get in trouble when Mom & Dad get the bill with the xtra charges on it.
There's an app for that, but only through AT&T.
My plan with them was around $130/mo. if I remember correctly.

MC--don't know if there's the same Verizon plans there as here, but I have Verizon with two lines, unlimited text, and 1400 minutes. I couldn't get below the 1400 and still get the friends and family thing. I never use the 1400 minutes, so I really didn't need the f&f thing with that many minutes. My bill with taxes, etc runs around $180.00 month. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
We were talking today in a meeting about the students with their mega-expensive cell phones, which they aren't allowed to bring to class. We have parents who will text message their sons DURING CLASS, and then they get upset when we confiscate the phone--they have to be in touch with their li'l darlin's 24/7, apparently.
We were batting around the idea of banning them completely (which doesn't work--they will turn in a dummy phone and keep their real one) and I asked (out loud) what would happen if we required, upon admission to the school, that they have one of those little firefly phones that only call mommy and 911.
Now I'm wondering what would happen if we ALL just had phones that call mommy and 911.

I have a brand new Touch Pro compliments of Sprint. Just renewed my 2 year plan with them for the 7 time. I have gotten something from them at each renewal.
Works very well except for afew dead spots around Freeport.
You can't get that rate today. But I will not be changing carriers anytime soon.

No. Listen! The last time I had a case of "I wants" it was six years ago, I was pregnant, and I really wanted an anniversary band for our 10th. (I got one. It was very reasonable.)
Seriously ... I never covet stuff*, but I covet the iphone. So be it!
I will just carve $60 or so out of the budget elsewhere. *okay almost never.
