Whitney Davidson will speak at the February 15 meeting of the Emerald Coast Meditation Society. Her topic will be “Yoga Nidra, or Yogic Sleep.”
The ECMS will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King, at 480 N. Co. Hwy. 393, one-half mile north of Hwy. 98. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Yoga Nidra or yogic sleep is an immensely powerful meditation technique & one of the easiest yoga practices to develop & maintain. Yoga Nidra brings you into a state of deep relaxation and then allows you to become increasingly aware of your body and inner world. While you rest comfortably on the floor (or in a seated position), a guided meditation will take you through the 6 layers of self, leaving you with a sense of wholeness. Please bring a blanket and/or yoga mat, along with any other props you may like for comfort (eye pillow, bolster, etc.).
Although Whitney was diagnosed with scoliosis as a child, it wasn’t until her 20’s that she discovered yoga could help alleviate back pain and poor posture. She has practiced yoga for close to 20 years, and has fallen in love with the mindfulness of yoga. Because of her experience, Whitney teaches from a deeply inspired heart and mind.
In 2011 Whitney formally received the 5 Mindfulness Trainings from Thich Nhat Hanh and received her Dharma Name: Clear Water of the Heart. She believes yoga is for everyone and should be made accessible to all. Because of this, her mission is to maintain a safe and sacred environment for physical and spiritual growth for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. To accomplish this, Whitney brings a sense of compassion and understanding for each student’s individuality to her classes – which focus on unifying the mind and body while strengthening both.
The ECMS is an ecumenical group open free to anyone. It meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month, September through June. The evening will end around 8 p.m. Anyone who would like meditation instruction should come at 6:15 p.m. Questions? Contact Tracey Tapp, tltapp@cox.net
