Seaside REP's Children's Summer 2012 Lineup is Free Fun For All
May 20, 2012 by SoWal Staff
The Seaside Repertory Theatre pulls out all the stops each summer to entertain the whole family with a series of free plays scattered around SoWal. This summer is no exception with three highly-entertaining productions for the outdoors.
River Rat and Cat - a comedy by Y York.
At the Alys Beach Amphitheatre Thursdays May 31-August 9 @ 6:30.
From the day fastidious River Rat hauled a drowning sodden Cat from a sinking basket (thinking Cat was some unique collectible), all of the river creatures have been dismayed by the camaraderie of this unlikely duo. Unbeknownst to River Rat and Cat, their downstream neighbor, Dale Beaver, has cast an eye on the one remaining tree, a tree currently owned by River Rat and inhabited by Cat. Beaver needs this tree if the Dale Beaver Dam is to remain the tallest on the river. Beaver must break up this friendship so that Rat will evict Cat. It’s a Keystone Kops kind of komedy for kids and their kin.
Beanie and the Bamboozling Book Machine - a fantasy by Bob May, Christopher Tibbetts and Roy C. Booth
At the Seaside Amphitheatre, Mondays May 21-August 13 @ 6:30.
Beanie Boren, a science wiz who is not keen on reading, has designed a book reading machine for the science fair. Unfortunately, the machine is neither user friendly nor bug free. When Beanie turns it on, lights flash, thunder booms and out pop the witches from Snow White, Hansel and Gretel and the The Wizard of Oz, each set to wreak havoc! Beanie must get them back into the books with help from the good guys in the same stories.
The Emperor’s New Clothes - a fairytale by Blanche Martin.
Rosemary Beach's North Barrett Square, Wednesdays May 29-August 10 @ 6:30pm.
A tale by Hans Christian Andersen about two weavers who promise an Emperor a new suit of clothes that is invisible to those unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent. When the Emperor parades before his subjects in his new clothes, a child cries out, “But he isn’t wearing anything at all!”
