St. Andrews State Park is hosting America's State Parks First Day Hikes on January 1, from 9-10:30 am. Begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike along the wildlife viewing trails within St. Andrews State Park.
Join Park Rangers for a hike on the Heron Pond and Gator Lake trails. Two guided hikes are scheduled for New Year's Day, beginning at both 9 am and 1 pm.
There are two trails in the park to choice from, Heron Pond and Gator Lake. The latter takes you on a scenic view around Gator Lake. The Heron Pond Trail starts at a Turpentine Still replica and winds through a number of plant communities where visitors may encounter wading birds and many small animals. The hike will span both trails, which are moderate in difficulty and cover approximately 1 mile.
Participants should meet at the Heron Pond Trail head, next to the Turpentine Still. Wear comfortable shoes and bring drinking water and binoculars. Program is free with regular park entrance fees.
