Teamwork Works Well in The Kindness Pet World

September 21, 2017 by Manny Chavez

Dr. Mary Connor has really settled into the SoWal community with her veterinarian practice, Kindness Pet Hospital, going full bore on Scenic 30A.

In business since 2014, she is a happy camper with the addition of Dr. Kristyn Carr. There are a lot more folks moving to this area and that means more pets need tending to.

“Dr. Carr is just awesome,” says Dr. Mary (pictured left). “She graduated at the top of her class from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and came to us with great surgical skills. With her on board we are now able to open on the second and third Saturdays of each month and are considering adding later hours during the week.”

Kristyn is equally as excited to be here. She has a firm grip on animal care and her pet philosophy is in line with those of Dr. Mary.

“Our emphasis is on client/vet relationships where we educate the pet owner about their pet’s immediate needs and long-term solutions. If our clients will take a pro-active roll with their pet and help us with our preventative-care approach, they and their pets will enjoy a longer, healthier relationship,” she explains.

All manner of pets are administered to at Kindness…dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, and chickens are all welcome. Only birds, reptiles and livestock are not included.

Clients are welcomed into the clinic by a friendly staff consisting of April Anson, Marna Bye, Fran Riehle, Alexa Shaffer, Carrie Saltzman, and Shari Anderson-Connor. The clinic feline mascots, Emme (a black long-haired beauty) and Baby Cat (a beautiful “tuxedo” cat), are always open to a good scratching and will put you and your pet at ease with their good karma once you are seated in the mellow waiting room.

Kindness services include physical exams, vaccinations, dentistry, surgical services (spays and neuters, mass removals, anesthesia, exploratory surgery, cystotomies, amputations, soft tissue surgery), puppy and kitten care, radiology and laboratory services, anesthesia, and microchip placement. Pet dental care has become a big part of Dr. Mary’s business with an estimated 85% of dogs and 75% of cats over 3 years of age displaying some form of periodontal disease.

Like their human companions, pets need regular dental cleaning and examining to steer away from oral problems. During routine dental maintenance, the pet’s teeth are ultrasonically scaled to remove build-up plaque and calculus. If necessary, root planing is done by hand to remove diseased tissue associated with periodontal disease, the teeth are then polished and a fluoride treatment is applied. If oral surgery or extractions are needed, Dr. Mary will utilize regional anesthetic blocks to prevent and manage pain during and after surgery.

All in all, Dr. Mary and her staff are all about making sure you and your pets are well taken care of.

“I can’t say enough about our team,” says Dr. Mary. “They have over forty years of combined animal care experience. They are solid. They are awesome…I love them all!”
