In the 1940s and 1950s families that visited SoWal every Summer stayed in quaint cottages - some were simple and practical concrete block homes that stayed cooler on hot days and defied the elements. Some of the getaways were wooden shotgun shacks moved down to the beach from Old Point Washington where they had housed workers when lumber was booming.
Here in SoWal, Summer is calling for folks to be outdoors in one fashion or another.

The lady replied, “Yes, I do!”
“In ten minutes, I probably knew more about her than I knew about my best friend,” exclaims Gina. “And she’s showing me pictures of everybody and thanking me profusely for my time.”

This exhibition began as a study of traditional still life paintings, inspired by artists like Henri Matisse and Leonardo da Vinci. Gaffrey researched and studied various works in order to better understand the true meaning of still life and the thought process these great artists went through in order to produce such great works.
