International Coastal Cleanup Sep 17

Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA), Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles and partners are co-hosting coastal cleanup efforts, in collaboration with the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup, to reduce the negative impacts of marine debris (trash) along coastal ecosystems in Walton County and Okaloosa County, FL. Also, see read about coastal cleanup day at Lake Powell in Bay County.

Cleanup efforts will be held at the site locations listed below on Saturday, September 17, 2016.

  • Join Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles and the community to help clean up the beaches all throughout Walton County, Florida. Bring your water bottle, sunscreen and hat and help make a difference. Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) cleanup efforts will be held at the site locations listed below from 9am-11am, Saturday, September 17, 2016.

9-11am | Norriego Point Public Beach Access & Park
CBA and the City of Destin, FL are co-hosting a site location at Norriego Point Public Beach Access. Volunteers are asked to arrive promptly at 9am and report to the back of the parking lot by the green dumpsters. Gulf Shore Drive (end of Holiday Isle), Destin, FL

9-11am | Liza Jackson Park
CBA and the City of Fort Walton Beach, FL are co-hosting a site location at Liza Jackson Park. Volunteers should go to the park's WEST entrance, and meet site coordinator under the pavilion closest to the boat ramp. 338 Miracle Strip Parkway, Fort Walton Beach, FL

9-11am | Choctaw Beach
Volunteers should arrive promptly at 9:00am and park/report to the bayside of HWY 20 East in Choctaw Beach, just east of Villa Tasso, along the guardrail. This area will be designated by yard signs displaying the International Coastal Cleanup & CBA logos. Choctaw Beach/ Eagle Creek, Hwy 20 East in Freeport, FL

Volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes, weather appropriate clothing and bring gloves. All other clean-up supplies will be provided to volunteers upon arrival to their site location. Please arrive early to ensure that you receive proper instruction for the clean-up effort. All volunteers are participating at their own risk. All entities involved in coordinating the clean-up effort are not held liable in the event of injury. First-aid will be availble in the event of minor injury. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Lake Powell at Camp Helen State Park (Bay County)

The Lake Powell Community Alliance (LPCA) together with the St. Andrew Bay Resource Management Association (RMA), Friends of Camp Helen State Park, Bay County Audubon and our local neighborhoods invite you to participate in a community effort to cleanup Lake Powell. Sign-in will begin promptly at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th at the Lake Powell Park [boat ramp behind Publix] or at Camp Helen State Park. The cleanup will last until noon. After the cleanup, learn about conservation efforts of the LPCA, RMA (aka St. Andrew Bay Watch), Bay County Audubon, Turtle Watch and other groups at their 'Eco-booths' in Lake Powell Park. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 75 volunteers to register! Participate in a 'Chance Drawing' to win some very nice prizes! Read more at SoWal Events Calendar for details and schedule.
