SoWal People: Gina Shiflett's Soulful Journey Across India

Gina Shiflett, the intrepid owner of Salon Twist in Seagrove, was returning home to South Walton from a three-week journey across India.

Her backpack in tow, bags overstuffed, back aching ... she plopped down beside a petite lady in an overcrowded Indian airport and asked, “Do you speak English?”

The lady replied, “Yes, I do!”

“In ten minutes, I probably knew more about her than I knew about my best friend,” exclaims Gina. “And she’s showing me pictures of everybody and thanking me profusely for my time.”

Camp Longleaf Offers Overnight Summer Camp at E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center

Learning and having fun go hand-in-hand this summer at the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center’s newest program, Camp Longleaf.

The week-long, overnight camp is designed for children ages 9-14, and enrollmet is open for three introductory sessions: June 9-14, June 16-21, June 23-28. Camp Longleaf will incorporate the Biophilia Center’s passion for nature with traditional camp fun and games.

Just a bit north of the beach, Eden Gardens State Park is nestled in the woods of Point Washington, along the shores of Tucker Bayou and the Choctawhatchee Bay. It's the ideal spot to relax and have family fun.

Walton County Provides Free Admission to Two State Parks

From now until Labor Day everyone can enjoy free day-use admission to Grayton Beach State Park and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. The Walton County Tourist Development Council has covered the cost of entry to increase available parking for beach-goers during the peak summer season, as well as raise awareness of the variety of eco-tourism activities in SoWal.
