Sixth Annual Grayton Beach Kids Fishing Tournament Photos and Video

May 17, 2012 by SoWal Staff

South Walton locals know one of the best ways to kick off Summer is the annual Grayton Beach Kids Fishing Tournament. This year it was a bit cloudy and windy but no one seemed to mind.

Registration was only $5.00 per kid for boys and girls under the age of 15. The tourney is intended to promote responsible use of our marine resources through recreational fishing. Each participant receives a free rod and reel, tackle box, beach rod holder, bait, Pompano rigs and weights. Eighteen gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded!

The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) is a grass-roots organization which was started by a group of recreational fishermen back in the late 70's to combat overfishing by the commerical industry. Since then, CCA has grown to more than 200 Chapters in 17 States and has a combined membership of over 100,000 people. Nationally, CCA takes an interest in a wide variety of marine related issues and, by way of our lobbyists in Washington D.C., CCA enables individuals to defend their rights as recreational fishermen.

Locally, the South Walton Chapter is made up of more than 250 individuals. Collectively, our objective is to share what we've learned and set an example for future generations. We feel the best way to accomplish this is to try and help educate people who may not have had the opportunity to the spend time fishing, like we did when we were growing up. This is an opportunity for all generations the learn about fishing and share in the experience of catching!
