On Valentine’s Day the SoWal Staff lunched at Grayton Beer Brewpub for some local love.
We beat the dinner crowd and opted for lunchtime bites. (Or so we thought…they were actually pretty busy!) Healthy salads, handhelds, and hearty apps found their way to the table as we chatted over the devastating Red Bar fire, and where we couldn’t wait to dine next. (Basmati’s, we’re coming for ya!)

The Friends of Eden Gardens invite the community to the annual Camellia Festival at Eden Gardens State Park on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10:00am til 2:00pm. Floral demonstrations and presentations will be held throughout the day. Visitors are invited to stroll through beautiful camellias in full bloom in gardens throughout the park. The most recent SoWal Real Estate Report covers all of Walton County including South Walton real estate activity for December 2018, with statistics for single family homes, townhomes, and condos in Walton County, Florida.
Single family closed sales were down 4.8% for December compared to the same month last year. The number of pending sales for Walton County was up 19.7%. Inventory was down 2.3%. Median sales price was down 9.2%. Dollar volume decreased 13.6% over last year at $117.7 Million.

Sandestin Investments, LLC (SDI) has received a development order from the Walton County Board of County Commissioners to proceed with the building of a new 250-room full-service hotel and conference center. The Sandestin Hotel and Conference Center will be located adjacent to the Baytowne Conference Center at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. This four-star hotel is the first new development within Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in over 4 years. Construction will commence in August 2018 with completion projected for April 2020.

Chef Jim Shirley of South Walton County, Florida was contacted by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association to prepare a high end, seven course meal for the then Governor Elect of Florida Ron DeSantis’ Inaugural Candlelight Dinner the night before his inauguration. On January 7, 2019, Jim and a crew of 30 including his top chefs and Director of Operations, Dan Tinghitella, traveled to Mission San Luis in Tallahassee to prepare for the evening’s event. The dinner was hosted by the Republican Party of Florida.
