Just keep an eye on your pets! We've had two cats disappear this year. A few months ago, I saw a coyote near our home and I'm certain that our cats were someone's dinner.

Yes, they'll take their meals wherever they can get them. During the summer the whole family of nine camped out here until the 5 pups were old enough to travel. I was wondering how they found enough to feed them all. When they did make a kill the woods would come alive with celebration. It was really erie sounding! Howling, barking, yelping, whining. All really loud! Now I'm sure they travel quite a bit. I only see them about every week or two and then it's only for a day or two. And I never get to see them all together. They're always in groups of three or four. I think I've accounted for 7 of the 9. There are 2 pups with white tip tails like their mom that I haven't seen since the summer. I just hope that wasn't them I've seen laying on hwy 98.

My understanding is that around 12 to 18 months, the pups disperse.
They might be becoming a bit more independent these days?
I hope "your" critters were not the ones on 98.
I bet Florida panthers could live around here, there are pinewoods and prey. But they have been so hunted I wonder if they simply no longer exist here.

Another coyote sighting confirmation. Our neighbors saw one Saturday afternoon in a vacant lot near Summers Edge.

I think there must be a coyote near E. Mitchell. If it is not a coyote, I don't know what it is. Yesterday, the squirrels were in the tree out along the road in front of our house, wailing. I have never heard squirrels cry like that before. They were very distressed about something. We looked to see if one of them were hurt, but they appeared okay. When I looked it up on the internet, it said that squirrels will wail or cry to warn other squirrels about predators in the area, namely coyotes! Please watch your animals, no one wants to lose a pet, especially at Christmas.

That's funny - our dogs were outside most of the day yesterday, and all day they kept running the fenceline back in the woods and generally going bananas. Bdarg said her heard something break a big stick back there, and it couldn't have been a squirrel.
