Yes, I know, but someone needed to bring it up as a potential problem - the coyotes and big cats, not the baby. Either could take down a 4 yr old. Be careful with your kids.

So, are we adding coyotes, bobcats, and panthers to the list of "dangers of Sowal?" Lets see, yellow flies, mosquitoes, jellyfish, sharkes, Portugues Man of War, snakes (pygmy rattlers, water moccasins, cottonmouths), spiders (black widows, brown widows, brown recluse), scorpions, PANTHERS, COYOTES, BOBCATS and BEARS. Not to mention hurricanes . . .

Nothing like living in Paradise.

At least we don't have traffic, drive by shootings, gangs, air pollution, urban blight, and various other violent crimes and problems associated with urban/suburban life. I think I'll take my chances with Mother Nature because there is nothing like a beautiful, sunny 70 degree day in December. (But I will be careful with my kids). ;-)

Add world's largest spider to the list. By the time Bdarg saw it, I had turned it into the world's largest pancake spider. It was attempting to come into the house through a cat door when I saw it. It was bigger than any wolf spider I have ever seen- big, brown and hairy!

And hopefully your cats, too, CCK. Two of them are enough to lose to predators. :sosad:

And yellowjackets too! I watched a surveyor do quite an impressive dance after he stepped on a subterranean nest while tagging trees. We eliminated the nest so Rapunzey, Patrick pug and Ellie would be safe. :clap_1:

Lets not be too hard on the sweet coyotes! They only eat what we leave out for them  I think they're just missunderstood.

I've been chased by roosters, a bull, canadian geese, a humming bird, an angry possum, a snarling raccoon, an aligator, a bull moose, a wild pony, a mamma moose, a roughed grouse, a black bear, red-winged black birds, a flock of crows, bees, a mule deer and lots of dogs. Dogs are the only ones I'm really afraid of. The others had a reason to attack and only wanted to chase me away. The dogs were determined to get me, and some of them did. Some, luckily, were stopped by my trusty golden retriever who was mighty tuff! I've been chased down and chewed on by a german shepherd, but I've been licked by coyote.

Unfortunately, we couldn't control the situation with the cats because both were adopted strays. One was a true feral that had kittens in our house and was then semi-tame enough that we were able to get her fixed, vaccinated, etc., but she refused to sleep in the house. The other had been a stray, but she was an inside/outside cat. One "incident" happened last New Year's weekend and the other happened about 3 months ago. Needless to say we will now only have indoor pets until we have a fenced yard (but now I have to worry about panthers in the trees  ).
