My neighbor just stopped by to tell me that they saw a HUGE coyote in the middle of the road in front of our house this morning. He trotted into the scrub next door. Wonder where he is now?
He is playing with my dogs in the front yard.

I am being tested by nature this week. Yesterday it was the attacking frog, today the coyote and the humongous spider that was trying to get in the sliding door.

I wouldn't be surprised, Elwood and I used to be followed all the time by a coyote in Denver. She (I always thought of her as a she, and didn't see anything that told me otherwise) would get as close as five feet away. She trotted along but always took her leave after maybe 5-6 blocks.
I never felt endangered, Elwood probably weighed three times as much as she did. The only thing I ever saw her bite was the piece of pizza she once had in her mouth.

FFF always call Sweetie coyote bait! She did get out of our screened in back porch once and FFF found her says "I rescued her from being coyote poop!" (makes him feel manly :dunno: ) but that is the only time she has ever been out on her own. Do you really think they would attack a small dog?

The coyotes will go after a 10-15 or so pound cat, especially during pup season. So if you've got a dog of similar size or smaller, no reason why they wouldn't go after that dog as well. They're equal opportunity medium-sized predators.
