rashes, low energy, to name a couple of problems......the doc thinks it's all related to food allergies & lack of vitamins/iron. Word of advice to the moms out there, multi-vitamins don't always do the trick, even the ones from the health food stores.
I am not a health expert, but the low energy is something I once experienced. It can often be changed by a better daily intake of food. I had too much sugar and too many bleached flour products. I am allergic to many most grains, other than rice. Now I can eat some whole wheat items in limited quantity, and it fills helps to fill you up, keeping a more level energy throughout the day. If the boy needs iron, be careful about his diet. I think the number one problem that vegetarians face is the lack of iron. If the little otter is cutting out beef and dairy, I recommend seeking some advice from a nutritionalist.

From GB:
Thanks for the advice SJ! The owner of one of the health food stores is the one who referred me to the dr, so I spent a lot of time with him today talking about the products. I bought a large container of Soy protein powder & some calcium/D to replace the milk/beef & when we get the smooothie recipe figured out I'll be adding it. Luckily, once we get his system cleared out, we may be able to re-introduce foods a little at a time. May take a while, but hopefully he will learn to love the good stuff so much he won't miss the bad stuff.

it's hard to find cuts like that here, we have been looking for a big hunk like that to make prime rib on the egg, found one at costco but it was $100.

I just now started reading this thread.

I can certainly attest to the Rice milk. I had my son drink it exclusively for about 3 years back when he was about 6 - 9 yrs. old. Same thing, food sensitvities (not food allergies in his case.) He LOVED it, drank it, used it in his cereal, etc.

He never had a problem with lack of protein. He's always been a huge meat eater. (Almost another problem in itself.)

Good luck with the little otter. I know how hard this is to try to pinpoint. You're doing the right thing. :clap_1:

I use a Soy protein powder. The Brand name is Spiru-tein. I mix it with a cup of milk (sometimes soy, sometimes regular). And throw in some frozen fruit. Usually it's either Peaches or Strawberries and Bananas. For a little fiber, I add about half a packet of metamucil. I also throw in a tablespoon of Flax seed oil. (why not? It's suppose to be good for you right?)

Hope the little otter gets into smoothies. They are great for quick on-the-go meals.
