don't you think the folks that profit from the selling of trees, the use of rivers, and the sale of seafood realise that? And don't you think it would be in their interest to protect or replinish what they use, since that would be a continued revenue stream? No offense to you, but I don't know why some people think that if a person is wearing a headdress, they are deeper and more enlightened than the white man. Maybe if American Indians looked to solutions other than the way of the buffalo, they'd get a handle on their people's problem of alcoholism.

Many people who are staunch advocates of preservation are those directly affected by it because they don't want their livelihood to disappear.

Sure, after we took their lands, pride and way of life away and put them in camps. They took no more and no less from the earth than they needed for a happy life. Profit and greed didn't enter the equation for them, but they certainly were the victims of it, as kathydwells' sig implies.
I think their way of life deservED a lot of respect.
