TFT, I thought the penalty was for only the primary election, not the general election. Is that incorrect? If the penalty was only for the primary election, I guess the DNC doesn't see a problem with not having the FL voters help make their decision for a nominee. I guess that would make sense, but if I were a registered Dem, I'd be a little upset.

Well, since the preference votes of the Democrats who bother to come out won't count in the "primary," it seems to me that many independent-minded registered Democrats in this state might have elephant-like memories and decide in the general election to go with whichever more moderate Republican likely ends up getting the nomination.

That was a long sentence. Anyway it seems a stupid thing for the DNC to do in a critical (possibly the most critical) swing state.

Another thing interesting is that Giuliani is counting on Florida to prop up his campaign. The ads are running hot and heavy, at least in the I-4 corridor. I understand that campaign budgets are limited, but I don't get the whole approach of campaigning in "only" some states, and in turn the voters usually end up voting among the candidates who have been campaigning in their state. The list of candidates is the same for everyone, is it not? It's all politricks, and it has nothing to do with which candidate would actually do the best job of running the country.

Is it a case of, "If I can't win, I'm not going to play?"

I think this is a new strategy. Back to Mitt Romney--he is doing this now and focusing on Michigan, which he wants to win for personal reason. The NH exit polls confirmed that a great number of voters did not make up their minds until they were in the voting booth. As a result, Mitt is going to take one state at a time and put his resources in MI.

The I-4 corridor is actually the strategic spot in Florida. The panhandle goes conservative except for Jackson and Leon counties, then south Florida goes to the left. The I-4 spot is the one that keeps everyone guessing. So I imagine the mailers, robocalls, and television ads are relentless.

Thanks Walton GOP.

I realize this isn't your side of the fence, but have you heard any buzz about the Democratic National Committee possibly relenting and allowing Florida to count its Democratic delegates?

It seems to me if the Democratic primary votes don't count, it will only help the Republicans in the general election.

Not familiar with their rules. I know Senator Nelson sued the DNC to have them counted and I think that went nowhere. Remember, Howard Dean is the head of the thing, and personally, I think he is a bit over the top. I do give him credit as the first person to learn how to effectively campaign and raise money over the internet though. He has lead the way in energizing the young crowd. But Paul has stepped in and taken that over now. I would love to get my hands on the demographic breakdowns in Iowa and New Hampshire. I bet someone could glean some very interesting information on what people were really thinking.

The calls are already driving me bat**** crazy. :roll::bang:

Actually what stinks is my husband is the one getting them, but he is not home to answer the phone. I had a good time harrassing the Bush people a bit in 2004 but they were so persistent, they kept calling. I mean, he donated $25 to the RNC in 2000, and I'm sure they spent twice that staffing the people who kept calling us in 2004.

So far we've just been getting the robocalls. I am still shellshocked from the 2006 state elections and really am not ready for another onslaught.

Do I really hate it when people ask themselves questions? Yes I do. Do I think Mitt is a schmucko? See previous answer. I am listening to him blather at the S.C. debate.

Yes, it makes me sick the way Huckabee is camaigning in churches! He may technically be giving sermons, but everyone knows what is going on.
:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

I think the whole thing is silly -- penalizing FL voters and the candidates, just because we changed the date we vote. Yeah, that will teach us a lesson. Heaven forbids states from making their own decisions.

Isn't that in the Second Chapter of Assumptions?
