Yes.

Indeed.
I am reminded of this Small Town Schtick that Gov. Palin has been pushing.
"We grow good people in small towns." To me this is shorthand for we grow white people in small towns. She is trying to appeal to a specific demographic.
Her message deflects from the truth, which is that our children will have a harder time buying a home than we did. That education is worse in this country than its been in a while. That sitting on the couch watching American Idol is now deemed preferable to such elitist practices as reading a book.
I've thought twice about Obama; I know he is a political animal.
I also believe that his heart is in the right place, and that his team will work hard. But we have to work hard, too.

Mango, I loved that speech by Richard Trumka.
Obama/Biden '08

Perfect- thanks Cil.

Maybe more specific than most would guess.

What is fascinating and absolutely chilling about that quote is that it comes from Westbrook Pegler, a raging anti-Semite. My goodness -- why? Couldn't the speechwriter have found some other quote about small towns?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westbrook_Pegler

From the Wall Street Journal:

It tells us something about Sarah Palin's homage to small-town America, delivered to an enthusiastic GOP convention last week, that she chose to fire it up with an unsourced quotation from the all-time champion of fake populism, the belligerent right-wing columnist Westbrook Pegler.

"We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity," the vice-presidential candidate said, quoting an anonymous "writer," which is to say, Pegler, who must have penned that mellifluous line when not writing his more controversial stuff. As the New York Times pointed out in its obituary of him in 1969, Pegler once lamented that a would-be assassin "hit the wrong man" when gunning for Franklin Roosevelt.

Hey, little girl, here's a big racist hate doll for you....

How sad. No words. :sosad: I decided I can't watch anymore of this either on-line and my TV is staying off till Election Day. It's not worth getting upset over. It's anti-productive. Just the other day I was watching the History Channel. First was a show about the history of the K K K, which I watched because it was informative and I thought, seems we have come a long way in this Country, but then right afterward was a show about Alaska. MANgo told me I made too much of it, but I wrote a well worded letter to the channel's media department because I felt they were subliminally sending some kind of message. FTLOG, it's the history channel. Interpretation of history is debatable, but the pairing of the programs just didn't seem right. Just can't get away from it. Then to see a video like this made me feel like we were almost right back in the 50's and 60's.

what a fool, notice how he so discretely(to him) removes the sticker when he realizes the camera is still on him, then attempts to hide his face. Too late scumbag, your 15 mins of fame went in the wrong direction.

I know there are people all over the place on all sides of the political spectrum, but this type of behavior is beyond the pale. And by all appearances, it is being condoned and fueled by those all the way at the top of the ticket. Shameful.

Sad to see old bigots. However, lets not act like the market on bad behavior has been cornered by Republicans. I was going to post a video of a left wing protest in DC where a very large sign is prominently displayed that says "eff the pig state" and "Bush is a mother effer", but it seemed a little vulgar for this board. This is pretty similar to what I saw from the left in Seaside four years ago with the "kill Bush" signs. Not pretty from either side.

full time, as I said, bigotry knows no political boundries. I think people should see the one's you didn't post, if no other reason than to try to move past behavior like that.

I too was in seaside when the current president came through, and didn't witness the sign(s) yo have referenced a couple of times. I was right at the sushi bar, and when that area got to crazy, went up to the second floor, above pizitz. were the signs possibly at the 'approved' anti bush area? I to this day don't where that was, or why it was needed.

Funny,
when I saw the shirts with Curious George that said Obama 08, my first thought was "how clever ... George (the name of our current President) with Obama 08 on the banana." :funn:

...:dunno:

I don't get why we are so easily offended anymore..

such a waste of energy IMO.
