This fired me up, Mango. Thx for posting...
If there is anyone out there who knows of a clip showing someone equally passionate speaking about McCain- pls do share. I want to hear what they have to say and try to feel what they feel...

Thx!

At first, I wish he hadn't included Bush, Cheney and McCain, but after hearing what McCain said tonight about "whipping Obama's butt" at the final debate, I have since changed my mind.

The hand over the heart is for the pledge of allegiance, not the national anthem. It's likely that one of the Democratic candidates did it first and then they all followed suit like sheep trying to make sure no one "out patrioted" them. Maybe Obama didnt do it because he knew it was not the tradition and he had enough character and self-assurance not to follow the others but instead to stick to what he felt was the proper form. Good for him.

I find this discussion of the "right" way to place one's body parts while listening to the national anthem very alarming. Does anyone besides me find this chilling? Isn't this where countries go when they are melting down? To finger pointing of this sort? It's only a small step from finger pointing to rounding up the "traitors" and disappearing them, as some people at recent McCain rallies have gotten around to suggesting.

one of my favorites is when a woman took the microphone and said she was afraid of obama because he is an "arab". what if he was an arab? do we just lump everyone together of every race or religion and decide they are all terrorists or all support some radical agenda? i'm a democrat but i don't look at all republicans as being right wing religious fanatics. each party has its more liberal and conservative side as well as a middle. unfortunately, for the last 8 years, the extremists on the right of the republican party have controlled who became president and what direction this country has taken. nothing to be proud of, for certain. if anything, it has created a huge division among people. we have alot to work on for this country to be truly great again. instead of attacking, we should be banding together to find solutions for all of our problems. and as an aside, if you want to pick on a democrat's associations, we can always go down the road and look at palin's minister on you tube, you know, the one who went to kenya to chase out a woman accused of being a witch. hmmmmm..... but for the sake of creating a more positive political atmosphere, i won't go there.

What irritated me about the whole exchange is that not all Arabs are Muslim. In the part of the country where I grew up, a very high percentage of the people of Arab ancestry were Christians who had immigrated to the US for better economic opportunity and more religous freedom. They're most typically Lebanese or Chaldean, but can also be from any number of Christian groups that spent centuries as minority religions in Middle Eastern lands.

I think you are known by the company you keep. Acorn, Farrakan, Ayers, Wright, Plegler, Franks, Dodd, etc.etc.etc.

How many of these has Obama repudiated? Only Wright because Hillary and her crowd was making things too uncomfortable.

If David Dukes called John McCain "the Messiah" it would lead the news for days.

I do not fear the "mothership" but I do fear those who hate America and wish to destroy us. I also fear a candidate for President who will not even show proper respect to the National Anthem.

Which is exactly why you should steer clear of cuckoobirds floating conspiracy theories. There are legitimate philosophical reasons one might not want to vote for Obama, but the above stuff is pap.

Obama has not asked for endorsements from the Farrakhans and the like. On the other hand, McCain has actively sought out endorsements from the Bob Jones crowd and a number of other unsavory types, and has also endorsed a number of people with ties to racist groups like George Wallace Jr. (Conservative Council of Citizens, a southern white supremacist group)

Indeed.
I am reminded of this Small Town Schtick that Gov. Palin has been pushing.
"We grow good people in small towns." To me this is shorthand for we grow white people in small towns. She is trying to appeal to a specific demographic.
Her message deflects from the truth, which is that our children will have a harder time buying a home than we did. That education is worse in this country than its been in a while. That sitting on the couch watching American Idol is now deemed preferable to such elitist practices as reading a book.
I've thought twice about Obama; I know he is a political animal.
I also believe that his heart is in the right place, and that his team will work hard. But we have to work hard, too.
Mango, I loved that speech by Richard Trumka.

Is the current economic crisis not enough of a wake-up call that this election needs to be about the issues?

Idlewild - the crazy homeless guy at the bus station has better political arguments than those!
