Here's one for you Blair;

Hello John,

Across the country, people are picking up the phone, usually in the evening, and hearing a recorded voice recite vile smears about Barack Obama. The voice could be Rudy Giuliani's, or Sarah Palin's, or someone anonymous, but the pattern is the same: overheated rhetoric spreading distortions and lies designed to whip up fear or anger at Barack Obama.

The calls are so bad, even some Republicans have come out against them. Republican Senator Gordon Smith's spokesman said, "Senator Smith does not condone these sort of calls."

Susan Collins "urges the McCain campaign to stop these calls immediately." Even Norm Coleman in Minnesota has distanced himself from the calls.

It's time we get all Senators and House members on record about these calls. Follow this link to listen to a couple of these calls, and then fax or call your elected officials and urge them to condemn the McCain-Palin robocalls:

http://www.truthfightsback.com/robocalls

We've been working hard at TruthFightsBack.com to highlight these types of political tactics. We need to make these tactics unacceptable, make it politically painful to run these types of smear campaigns.

Our country deserves better than the slash-n-burn politics of the past. So fax or call your Senators and your Representative in the House and ask them to come out against these calls.

Thanks,
Brian Young

PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.

The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.

I am trying to figure out how the heck Blair sees any similarities between McCain's campaign robocalls and some thug that robbed people at an ATM.

Maybe Bueller knows.

I think I'm missing something here. As horrible as this is, it's not like the Dem. party endorsed his actions... :dunno:

I don't understand the point of this post. What exactly am I supposed to take away from it? How does it pertain in any way to the discussion at hand? Was the perpetrator of this violent crime a campaign worker for Obama? Was his action mandated by Obama's campaign? Please explain yourself.

Blair, my looking for a response from you is a bit different than your name calling, but based on your subsequent posts, I guess I should just accept what you deliver; no content, just pithy, drive by posts. I'm going to head up and post to your pittsburgh post.

McCain draws bipartisan criticism for 'robo calls'

LAS VEGAS (AP) ? Two senators in opposing political parties asked Republican presidential candidate John McCain to stop the automated phone calls that link Democratic candidate Barack Obama to a 1960s radical.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, and Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine Republican, made separate appeals to McCain on Friday. Collins faces a tough race for re-election and serves as a co-chairwoman of his Maine campaign.
"These kind of tactics have no place in Maine politics," Collins spokesman Kevin Kelley said. "Sen. Collins urges the McCain campaign to stop these calls immediately."
In Nevada, a four-page campaign flier mailed this week by the state Republican Party also focused on Obama's past relationship with former Weather Underground leader Bill Ayers, calling the college professor a "terrorist, radical, friend of Obama" and featuring several images of Obama and Ayers.
Reid told reporters at a news conference in Las Vegas that he's surprised at the "scummy" tactics employed by McCain's presidential campaign and "can't believe John McCain knows what's going on."
The McCain campaign says the calls are warranted because Obama's connection to Ayers ? the two met many years after Ayers' anti-Vietnam War activities had ended ? raises questions about the Democrat's judgment and record.
"This is an association that is highly questionable and not out of bounds," McCain spokesman Rick Gorka said.
The automated calls in Maine, Nevada and other states ? they are commonly known as "robo calls" ? say Obama "has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's home and killed Americans." The charge is misleading: The bombings, which took place more than 35 years ago, didn't result in fatalities and the group didn't claim responsibility for the attack on the judge's home.
Obama has condemned Ayers' radical activities, which took place in the late 1960s and the 1970s, when Obama was a child. In the debate Wednesday with McCain, Obama said Ayers played no role in his presidential campaign.
Ayers, an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, lives in Obama's neighborhood in Chicago. In 1995, he hosted a meet-the-candidate session at his home as the young Harvard Law School graduate prepared to run for the Illinois Senate. The two also worked with two nonprofit charitable organizations in Chicago.

For what it's worth, I can't believe the McCain campaign knows what's going on either. . . .

You cannot equate pre-recorded calls from someone's campaign (some featuring the voice of the VP candidate) smearing the opposing candidate (and which are so vile they are being publicly condemned by members of his own party) w/ a mugging at an ATM perpetrated by someone w/ no connection or affiliation w/ a candidate or campaign.

And if McCain can't control his own campaign or party, how is he supposed to run this country?

A horrible event. It's crazy that the robber felt the need to beat her based on her political beliefs, after feeling the need to steal from her. Idiocy and despair knows no political boundaries.
