I believe that the Bible is the only book that is inspired by God. People are inspired to write books. But this is not the same inspiration.

Trick question: Is the Holy book that says Jesus is a messenger from God and that we should follow his teachings divinely inspired?

I have found that when you study the Bible the way I previously stated it is logical. But I definitely agree that that is where faith comes in and without faith you will not believe it.

I consider myself a recovering Christian. When I finally looked at the bible logically it made no sense to believe it was the word of God. It is a fascinating collection of stories written by men. If you want to believe it is written as God's word I will defend your right to do so.

This Op Ed piece today from Kathleen Parker seemed to fit into the conversation here....

Suffice it to say, the Republican Party is largely comprised of white, married Christians. Anyone watching the two conventions last summer can't have missed the stark differences: One party was brimming with energy, youth and diversity; the other felt like an annual Depends sales meeting.
With the exception of Miss Alaska, of course.
Even Sarah Palin has blamed Bush policies for the GOP loss. She's not entirely wrong, but she's also part of the problem. Her recent conjecture about whether to run for president in 2012 (does anyone really doubt she will?) speaks for itself:
"I'm like, okay, God, if there is an open door for me somewhere, this is what I always pray, I'm like, don't let me miss the open door. Show me where the open door is.... And if there is an open door in (20)12 or four years later, and if it's something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door."

Let's do pray that God shows Alaska's governor the door.

This alone was worth the price of admission. :D

Can you quote a section of the Quran that explicitly says this? The Quran actually says this............ "Surely those who have faith (in Islam) and the Jews and the Christians and the Sabaeans - whoever believes in God and the Last Day - their reward is with their Lord and they will neither fear nor grieve" (Quran 2:62 and 5:69)

and did you know the word infidel was actually created by Christians?
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/infidel

Islam is the completion of both Judaism and Christianity. Muslims believe that God revealed the Torah to Moses and the Gospel to Jesus. However, over time these teachings have become lost or corrupted. God's purpose in revealing the Quran was to provide guidance in its complete and final form. Islam teaches that Judaism and Christianity both contain truth and are both based on revelation from God; however followers of these religions have mixed in man-made teachings and doctrines.

In order to be a Muslim you must believe and have faith in the fact that both Moses and Jesus lived. You must also believe that they are sacred.

Great article, that very succinctly sums up the current state of the Republican Party as many people view the party today.

Attention Republicans: You have 4 years to find a credible candidate that might be palatable to more than your religious conservative base. If you can find a Sarah Palin in an igloo, surely to God you can find someone more qualified in one of the other 49 states.

However, I do feel your pain, as we all have seen with the difficulty in finding good qualified candidates for local offices.

Agree with you Jdarg and it is indeed an excellent article. Completely to the point - and one more point: at the next 4 years progress this country gets more and more diverse so the GOP does need to find a voice that resonates far beyond their core base.
