This Op Ed piece today from Kathleen Parker seemed to fit into the conversation here....

1. I think Kathleen Parker has been kidnapped or has went stark raving bonkers.
2. I do not think that being the democrats lite is the way to go.
3. Republicans need to find their roots-fiscally responsible roots.
4. Conservative moral stands is not where Republicans lose minorities-Blacks and Latinos both voted overwhelmingly for the no gay marriage proposals in Florida and California. Republicans must become the party of economic hope and vitality to reach out to minorities.
5. We must reach the middle ground and resist "advice" from people who would not vote for a Republican if they were the last people on earth.

I believe that the Bible is the only book that is inspired by God. People are inspired to write books. But this is not the same inspiration.

It is precisely this ideology and cultivation of such into the domestic/international political realm that inspires radicalism.

I disagree with that Mango. Radicalism is born out of desperation, not devout belief.

Great article, that very succinctly sums up the current state of the Republican Party as many people view the party today.

Attention Republicans: You have 4 years to find a credible candidate that might be palatable to more than your religious conservative base. If you can find a Sarah Palin in an igloo, surely to God you can find someone more qualified in one of the other 49 states.

However, I do feel your pain, as we all have seen with the difficulty in finding good qualified candidates for local offices.

The party really hasn't had any trouble finding candidates that are palatable over the last eight or so elections. I doubt they'll have any trouble down the road.

Devout belief that yours is the only truth can encourage radicalism or desperation if society doesn't conform to your belief. Wouldn't you agree that both can be contributory? There's nothing wrong with devout belief, but I've no doubt that intolerance of others beliefs inspires radicalism.

This one word is the biggest problem with most religions and many conservatives, including many of my closest friends. And yes, I have discussed this with them and they agree up to a certain point. Not just intolerance of other beliefs but intolerance of things including but not limited to race, lifestyle, appearance, and income level. The number one excuse I hear for racism is "well that's the way I was raised".

Irony alert!
There are some in people in our society and government that espouse radicalism as a political virtue.

and regarding intolerance, I heard a great quote yesterday on the radio,
"those who demonstrate the loudest for tolerance are usually the most intolerant"
