Re: Limbaugh: "I Hope Obama Fails"

Succeed vs. fail at what exactly? We seem to always talk in generalizations with Obama, I'm kind of tired of that, I'd like some specifics, for example, on the stimulus plan, I think it will fail to have any effect and will in fact cause more problems than in solves. That failure would actually be a good thing long term as it would discredit that type of policy. Solving the rising cost of healthcare and the uninsured? I'd like to see a solution to that, but I question Obama's solutions as being the best. Solving our dependence on foriegn oil? I'd like to see some long term solutions that work for that, I hope Obama succeeds. Do I hope Obama will fail at building up the size of our welfare state - yes. Do I hope Obama will fail at raising the social security tax cap? Yes. I think you have to look at specifics. I have high hopes for Obama on some items and I hope he fails miserably on others. Failure isn't neccassarily a bad thing in my book, it's the only way you learn from your mistakes.

Your nuanced reply may be giving Limbaugh too much credit. :D

Listen to you guys.

"Exactly what one should expect from a fat-ass drug addict."
"Limbaugh is a moron -"
"White-wing, conservatives"

Nice, elevating, debate you have going here.

Here is what he said. He wants him to fail, because his ideas have never worked and will hurl this country deeper into socialism.

RUSH: I'll tell you why. I am hearing many Republicans say that very thing. "Well, we want him to succeed," and prominent Republicans! "Yes, we want him to succeed." They have laid down. They have totally. They're drinking the Kool-Aid, too. They have no guts to stand up for what their beliefs are because they're afraid of criticism. They're afraid of being called racists. They're afraid of not having gotten with the program.

RUSH: -- if he does not eliminate the Bush tax cuts, I would call that success. So yes, I would hope he would succeed if he acts like Reagan. But if he's going to do FDR -- if he's going to do The New New Deal all over, which we will call here The Raw Deal -- why would I want him to succeed?

RUSH: Well, I don't know where what he wants to try has worked. It didn't work in the Soviet Union. It doesn't work in China.

What Rush said is a caricature of what Obama is trying to do and what his supporters believe.

I'll take 30Ashopper's nuanced and pointed questioning any day over this.

Re: Limbaugh: "I Hope Obama Fails"

So much for working together!!! :sosad:

Limbaugh told his listeners that he was asked by ?a major American print publication? to offer a 400-word statement explaining his ?hope for the Obama presidency.? He responded:
So I?m thinking of replying to the guy, ?Okay, I?ll send you a response, but I don?t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.? (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here?s the point. Everybody thinks it?s outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, ?Oh, you can?t do that.? Why not? Why is it any different, what?s new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what?s gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don?t care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: ?Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.? Somebody?s gotta say it.

Spot on! There has certainly not been any elevation by many Obama supporters. But I agree that people like Rush and Ann Coulter on the right, and on the left Keith Olbermann (OMG) and whoever that lady on MSNBC is who cannot seem to stop Bush bashing and calling for him to be jailed-lol, are counter to what could help this country.

These 4 people I just mentioned to bash all the time, which is just self-serving and marekting to the extremes and the 'base' if you will. It is the same motivation and personality traits that is within those like Madoff who steal from people in security fraud schemes. They are selfish. The ones I mentioned are sad human beings whose discourse lowers us all by influencing their stupid followers who drink their cool-aid blindly. I wonder if they'd follow Olbermann or Coulter to Jonestown?

It was interesting to note what some 'stars' so prominantly displayed as Obama supporters said in after inauguration parties, including Jay-Z while singing to a group of African Americans. The racism of many of Obama supporters is sickening. I have a close friend who tells me that I would not believe what gets said when it is just African Americans in the room.

But I support Obama and hope he is the real deal. It will be a tough job for any human, but hopefully not impossible. I also hope that those who are in his cabinet also hold themselves to some higher calling. We need that. But while I don't know if his policies will all be correct, impossible really, he does hold himself up in a very dignified way and seems to aspire to something higher.

But life is like a pendulum in some ways. And what I fear will happen is that the 'base' on the right will beat the drum incessantly as did the left for the last 8 years. People like Rush, Coulter and Hannity will not stop. They will Obama-bash just like the left loons Bush-bashed. It will hurt our country, but that is what is set in motion.

I do wish, as some have stated here, that Obama can inspire people and eventually make people like Oldermann and Rush 'irrelevant'. But I also wish to win the lottery, and I don't even buy tickets.

This sums up my feelings nicely!

My first thought when I read the thread title was that I hope he fails to pass the stimulus plan if it remains anything like what I've been reading so far. I don't think we need to handicap our country that badly just to learn a lesson.
