shotgun is my close quarter weapon of choice. and it will do the most devastating damage to someone trying to hurt you or your family inside your residence. I like slugs, though. Pellets can scatter and do damage to something or someone else in the area if your not careful. Easy weapon to master though.

My "close quarter weapon of choice" is locked doors, nothing to steal, and a low crime neighborhood w/ nosy neighbors.

The shotgun comment was just about how stupid you are to think an AK-47 under your pillow is an effective home defense system.

The best deterent to crime, when you are'nt luck enough to have nosy neighbors or a low crime rate, is actually dogs.:D

Twelve years as a law enforcment officer and I've worked one burglary out of thousands where a dog was allowed to roam freely inside the house. ONE!

Just my opinion though. Not the opinion of any official law enforcement agency.

Those of you who think a shotgun is just a simple point-and-click interface that can't miss might want to check this out.

Read both pages...ESPECIALLY the "Lessons Learned" on the last page.
All weapons should be mastered by those who will wield them.

This is a really cool article.

Thanks for posting this

I totally agree - our guns are just for hunting, but the Scooterhounds have been on guard and intimidating strangers for years. When I was a baby/kid they were always close by and when I got older they were required to ride shotgun with me on nighttime errands as an additional safety precaution. I'll take a 50-75 lb over-protective dog over an alarm system or gun any day.

My mother refers to my brother's dog as "the hound of the baskervilles" because he has such a loud/deep bark he scares the sheet out of US, let alone strangers!

Thanks for posting this. Good article.

I have to admit that I was surprised at the narrow entry field of the various loads, especially at twelve feet.

I guess the promixity weapon of choice remains the hand grenade.
