That doesn't sound right to me. I've written to the White House and asked, I will let you know what I find out.

BTW, I agree it was a snarky comment. :dunno:

From FoxNation:

Rpt.: Obama Wastes Millions in Personal Entertainment
The same hypocrite who says our energy costs must ?necessarily skyrocket? to fund his political ambition, is giving Marie Antoinette a run for her money when it comes to spending national treasure on personal luxuries.

While much of the country is struggling to pay their bills, the President and First Lady are partying like rock royalty. The collection of talent that has made the pilgrimage to the White House to entertain Obama and friends is nothing less than amazing: Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennet, Paul Simon, Marc Anthony, Herbie Hancock, Martina McBride, Queen Latifah, The Foo Fighters, Faith Hill, and recently foot-in-mouth Paul McCartney to name a few.

This has the makings to be the greatest ongoing concert series ever to be seen on this Earth just to entertain one man ? all paid for by the American taxpayer.

Let Them Eat Cake

How much does this world-class entertainment cost? Assuming the artists themselves forgo appearance fees, I highly doubt Paul Simon would perform with just a karaoke machine as backup.

Professional equipment needs to be brought in - sound engineers, stages, lights, etc? Even small scale performances by these artists can be very expensive.

Add booze, food, security, invitations, social secretaries, wait staff, and hangers on to the tab and the price for one of these events could easily top $75K. With over 27 concerts hosted thus far, the total cost to taxpayers is in the millions of dollars.

The executive branch does not provide detailed information regarding entertainment expenses, however, it has been estimated the Obamas spent at least $10 million on ?White House parties? in 2009 alone.

Sarahwind: I'm not a google expert but Bush is somewhat famous for commenting that he doesn't read many books. It's right up there with his famous "you're doing a heck of a job, Brownie" comment. The fact that Rove had to come back and say "yes he does read" kinda says it all, does it?

LakeViewToo, it is well known the President Bush and Karl Rove had/have a book reading contest and it has gone on several years. Maybe you should learn to Google and find out information for yourself instead of posting comments that are untrue, unkind and a touch dumb.

As for the Brownie comment, yes it was not Bush's greatest moment. President Bush, however, is not stupid. Oh, do you know we have a new President? You, I fear, are suffering from BDS. (Bush Derangement Syndrome)

I didn't bring up Bush. Paul did. And you brought up Paul, in a discussion about Media Coverage of the Oil Spill. I have apologized to you twice. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again.

Who is Paul? Paul from the other thread as in Beatles?

That Beatle - Sir Paul McCartney or Rude Paul as someone else called him. I do like his daughter's clothing designs, though.....she is an animal rights activist and does great shoes without leather! I love that!

You've been insulting and throwing flames on several threads. Read the Rules of forum, particularly:

While debating and discussion is encouraged, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters.

Oh and as to Sir Paul's remark, those saying it was in poor taste should take a serious look in the mirror. Are you seriously trying to tell me that's worse than some of the hate and vitriol spewed just on this board since Obama was elected?
..."hate and vitriol spewed just on this board since Obama was elected?" May I respectfully suggest, SWGB, you go back to many of the political threads while Bush was President if you really want to find "hate and vitriol". And,regardless what you and all the other Progressives on the board say, it was in poor taste by any measurement.

I did not care for Bush and I don't really care for Obama, they both are way too cozy with big business for my comfort level.

But while in office both should recieve the respect that the office of the President deserves.

As to the comments on this forum about Bush and Obama there is enough hatred and vitriol and rudeness to pretty much say it was evenly spewed.

You can not expect people to respect your Presidential preference when you do not respect thiers.
