when you grow up, your mind
may become an illegal immigrant to your culture. good luck.

If that means I will get to pay instate tuition no matter where my future children decide to go to college, then I will be fine with that.

2 UGA students and 4 Georgia Tech students MIGHT be illegal aliens or they MIGHT just not have the correct form turned in.

Based on those numbers, IMO any student who think they were denied admittance because of illegal aliens needs to find a different scapegoat as to why they couldn't get in.

To be eligible for in-state tuition, you or your legal guardian has to prove residency in that state for a certain amount of time. If you can't do that (like because you are an illegal alien), you don't get in-state tuition. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Well, it is interesting that Georgia is doing this considering they do charge illegal immigrants OOS tuition, which explains the very low numbers.

But this issue is only about "academically qualified" students. So in reality the 4 people at Georgia Tech and the 2 at Georgia who may or may not be illegal, caused qualified Georgia students to not be able to attend their state university.

No, because IMO any truly qualified student would still have been admitted.

2-4 people is WELL within the admission variables - which can fluctuate by more than 50 times that amount based on who is accepted and who ultimately attends.

Heck, I took up more slots than that at various colleges because I applied to 5 schools and was accepted, but obviously only attended 1.

This is a bonafide might and maybe conversation Y'all are engaged.
If an applicant cannot show a student VISA (legit), green card for permanent residency, or prove US citizenship, I don't think he/she should be admitted to a public university. However, each University asks for citizenship status or proof of right to be here.....so, either the illegal is lying on the application or the University doesn't care if there are lies and therefore the admission boo-boo is on them.

Ivy Leaguers can do what they want. That's not tax payer $$.

As long as we (here in Ga) continue to charge illegals out-of-state tuition (based on the numbers reported) the problem seems to be self regulating.

Seems more like election season hijinks to me.

I'd much rather they focus on illegals driving without insurance.

Well, you are right that pretty much every university asks about immigration status, but I don't know of any states where immigration status affects admissions. I know in Texas, Illegal immigrants are not allowed to receive state funded aid, but they can receive federal aid and receive in-state tuition. Immigration status does not influence the admissions decision the student receives.

So for right now, the Universities know the applicant is illegal, it just doesn't matter.

While I think a lot of admission counselors would disagree with this statement because it does not take into account the randomness of college admissions, I'll say it is generally true.

Either it's a random process w/ variables or it's so straightforward a few possible illegals are ruining your chances. Gotta pick one. ;-)

Frankly I don't quite understand how any "illegal alien" could complete the mountain of paperwork and data necessary for college admission (medical, financial, transcripts, SSN etc.) without already being on the government's radar.

THAT is the real issue IMO.

So, why don't you work diligently toward securing him a 'piece of paper!!' Because in this country, that piece of paper is very important and highly valuable!!
