Right here!
Please show me the text of the bill where it says you will be able to retroactively get insurance coverage.

It's entirely true, she can't be refused for pre-existing conditions. That includes the car accident she got into yesterday. She would have to pay the hospital for her initial emergency stay, but as soon as she applies for insurance, she's covered beyond that.

See my response above. Shame on you guys for being SO judgmental! :nono1: You have NOT walked in her shoes and do NOT know her story. I bet you hope that one day you are not in a situation where you are forced to leave needed care because you lost your insurance.

That problem could have been fixed with a 10 page bill. Why did the democrats risk reforms like that by wrapping such changes up in a 2000 page overhaul they knew would be unpopular? Think about that.

Scooter, why do you insist on being venomous?

The fact that you think being asked to have some compassion and decency is a "personal attack" explains a lot.

Gidget, my feelings exactly. I really do not understand a person who is so quick to judge others; who are we to know whether or not someone "deserves" to have a benefit or whether or not extenuating circumstances have led to a horrible situation. I have lived long enough to know that no one knows what is going on with another person; why some people feel as though they have the right to be this judgmental and uncaring is a mystery to me. I am glad that the majority of folks seem to have more compassion. I hope that this young woman is able to recover from this horrific accident and put her life back together again. It's bad enough what the insurance companies have gotten away with for years; it's even worse when one has no compassion for a fellow human being.
But, I've been on this message board long enough to know that some posters can not be persuaded from judgment and an seemingly uncaring attitude.
.
I'm with you 100%. I think some just can't look past the ones they have seen gaming the system. If they did, they would see the single mothers (fathers) working 2 lower paying jobs which barely cover necessities plus childcare. These people work much harder than my relatively well-paid husband or myself. A co-worker at lunch today says "They should have gone to college so they would get better pay." There are those like my brother (deceased due to cancer) who worked every day of his life and spent 9 years in the military and had insurance but the dining room table kept piling up with bills beyond what insurance would cover. After his death his wife paid small amounts trying to spread the money around but in the end declared "medical" bankruptcy. These are people who would never take anything from anybody - a very hard choice for her to make. I get angry hearing such uncaring comments and disdain for fellow human beings who are in tough situations. Those on pedestals, enjoy it now because you don't know how long you'll be up there in your judgmental positions.

Funny you should say that as I was just watching a suggestion for doctor payment by Sue Lowden:

A powerful point made with hilarious humor!

Please don't jump into a discussion on policy and try to make it personal then accuse those you disagree with on the policy as being judgemental and insensitive. Personal attacks are not allowed here so I've been told.
.
No personal attack at all! There is insensitivity being displayed in this thread. Open your eyes. That's not to say it's not one's right to be insensitive - it just sucks that some are.

Can we all agree that the system needs changing? Who would not agree with that statement?

On a personal note - my son's best friend's gf was in a terrible car wreck - see photo

The car was on fire and she was airlifted to OLOL in BR. She has fractured tail bone, neck, back, ribs, not to mention she was in ICU for almost a full week. I mean LOOK at that car!

She was driving her bf's car and the medical on his policy was only $5,000. She was covered under her parent's car insurance for medical (policy follows driver) but that didn't even cover the airlift. Now, she has pretty much been kicked out of OLOL. She tried staying in hotel close to hospital last night with her relatives and bf but didn't make it through the night and had to go back. They did let he in but only to be moved to a re-hab ctr in NELA. I hope she gets the car she needs and unfortunately, I think it likely that her parents will have to go bankrupt due to her bills (which btw, prompt more than 60% of all bankruptcies). If they can carry the bills then I am certain their plans for future retirement have gone out the window - not to mention the financial worry they now have on top of worrying about their daughter's health.

IMHO this is the type of tragedy that should be covered 100% whether a person "deserves it or not" and I would add that I would hope that even if she had been an illegal or "undeserving" that we as a Nation would not turn our backs.

And btw, while I'm posting I have to say that I just don't like the term "Obamacare".

Gidget, if it is appropriate, and certainly when the time is right, your friend might want to get in touch with a friend of mine. Allison survived a horrific accident and fire and many other things, and has gone on to make a wonderful life. Now she devotes much of her life to helping others in similar circumstances. She is also a talented artist. To connect with her might be helpful for this young woman and her friends and family. Allison is amazing and has a big heart and a compassionate soul.

In fact, I just emailed Allison about your friend;if you find out that this young woman is interested in learning more about Allison's work, let me know and I will purchase a CD set for her and get it to you to send to her.

Poster's Son's best friend's girlfriend. Yes emotions are flying. Bleeding hearts come to mind.

Obamacare is going to solve all your problems. This is a political thread not the best place for therapy.
