I don't have a problem with Perry going to a prayer rally (or any other reasonable religious event), I have a problem with the Governor holding an exclusive prayer rally, publicizing it as the Governor, possibly using public funds, and inviting other governors.

I also don't have a problem with any elected official saying they are religious, attending services, or leading a prayer in times or stress or tragedy.

It's the fact that the highest government office/official in the state is excluding, denigrating, and hoping to convert other religions that is the problem.

So you are saying that elected officials give up their right to practice their religion once elected? Or is it only Christian, Republican elected officials?

Where is the evidence of Perry "denigrating" anyone or their religion? Where is the evidence that public funds are being used?

Work on your reading comprehension.

I specifically said I did not have a problem with any elected official practicing their religion.

I have a problem with the government practicing or promoting religion.

Work on writing what you mean. You stated you did not have a problem with elected officials practicing their religion but then followed that statement with this: "I have a problem with the Governor holding an exclusive prayer rally" So if the governor's religion prohibits him from participating in religious ceremonies with non-Christians, then you do not approve. So, elected officials can practice their religion as long as you approve of the form and method? Either you have freedom of religion or you don't.

I don't give a rat's arse if his religion prohibits him from doing something.

I have a problem with him using the office of Governor to impose his religious ideas on anyone else.

If a Jewish governor doesn't eat bacon because of his religious beliefs, that's fine.

If he tries to ban bacon from all government offices, cafeterias, catered events, and make it illegal to buy, sell, or produce bacon in his state, that is not.

Perry is not banning anything, he is holding a Christian prayer meeting. The issue was raised by liberals to distract and defame. Much adou about nothing.

An appropriate response would be, "AMEN".

The issue was raised by Americans who don't want to see our government hijacked by religion of any type.

I really do not think that is the case. I think people do not want to be told what to believe in or judged for their beliefs. Religion tends to draw on "fear" and so do "politicians". When you put those two together it will incite emotions they have the potential for extremism. What do you think Rick will pray about? The end of the world or a better world? Giving thanks to God or thanks for voting for him? His public purpose is insincere (IMO). If he wants to pray privately well then that is more appropriate for the purpose. This does not have to pit religion and non religion against each other. There should be a place for all beliefs in society. That is what liberty and freedom are all about. If you do not keep this private then it will create judgements between members of society and then what? Fear then war then hell...
