Pyrethrins attack the nervous systems of all insects, and inhibit female mosquitoes from biting. If the poisons being sprayed by the Mosquito Control are mostly made from Tanacetum cineriaefolium,
why not just plant more of the daisy-like flowers as a more beautiful way of controlling the insect bites without killing the beneficial insects which many other species need to eat in order to survive? It should be noted that though the pesticide is organic, it can still be harmful to humans.
It's one thing to spray yourself with DEET, but it is another thing to spray a poisonous fog into the air potentially affecting all who come in contact with it. There is never a warning before spraying to allow people to go inside to avoid it.
Bob, I doubt you would like it if people came up to you unannounced and sprayed you with "harmless poisons." In fact, that could probably be considered an assault and you could have people arrested. I find it interesting that the government can do that same thing, yet it seems "normal" and not offensive.
Regarding the first thread about the spraying of dispersant in Seagrove, I didn't understand the comment. Dispersant as we recently knew of it was sprayed over oil to disperse oil, on the BP oil spill in the Gulf. Since Seagrove isn't located in the Gulf, was the original poster seeing a mosquito poison truck, or something out over the Gulf? Where is that original poster?
