Bill Clinton coming Monday to Destin
July 30, 2007
By Florida Freedom Newspapers

For most of Monday, Harbor Docks restaurant owner Charles Morgan was giving odds of 70-30 that former President Bill Clinton would visit his establishment.
By that evening, the odds had gotten much better, as Clinton's advance team nailed down plans for an exclusive fund-raising event on heavily Republican turf in Northwest Florida.
"Somebody asked 'How did he know how to find y'all?' " Morgan said. "I said, 'Hey, if you're looking to find Democrats in this area, it's not too hard.' "
Only those who produce a check of $2,300 or more will be allowed inside Harbor Docks for the Hillary Clinton fund-raiser, said Toni Craig, who chairs Okaloosa County's Democratic Party. It is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday.
"I asked, 'Well, what about us poor Democrats?' " Craig said. "At the very least, I'll have my Clinton supporters out at the street."
Clinton's wife, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., leads among Democratic presidential hopefuls in Florida, according to poll results released Friday by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research.
She won't be at Monday's event.
She had support from 31 percent of the state's Democrats, compared to 17 percent for her closest rival, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
Florida's presidential primary is Jan. 29.
The former president last visited the area in the late 1990s for an Eglin Air Force Base memorial service honoring victims of the Khobar Towers terrorist bombing.
Morgan said Clinton's plan to visit has generated a lot of excitement in the area.
"The response has been very impressive," he said.
Secret Service agents were scheduled to arrive Thursday to begin preparations, Morgan said.
The restaurant owner did not know exactly what the protocol for such events was, and it was unclear whether media would be allowed to attend the event.
"I asked them how long he planned to speak, and they told me, 'He'll go as long as you've got a microphone in front of him,' " Morgan said. "I'm gonna trick him into playing the saxophone."
Morgan has traditionally been successful at luring big-name Democrats to Harbor Docks.
Bill McBride came to the restaurant in 2002, shortly before emerging victorious in a hard-fought Democratic primary and eventually losing to Jeb Bush in the governor's race.
Presidential hopeful and later vice presidential candidate John Edwards packed the restaurant during a 2003 campaign visit.

Well said ChickPea ----

It's hard to believe that after all these years ---
These little childish remarks are all people can come up with ---
Wake up folks --- look at the big picture ---- stop living in the past --
We all make mistakes --- though personally misleading the American people is of much more concern to me than what happened with someone's sex life --- does all that really matter in the big scheme of things? When will we move on and concentrate on making this world a better place? If we all spent as much time working on solutions as we do on criticizing others, perhaps there could be positive change in this country.

While he did drag the country into an embarrassing public spectacle, it PALES in comparison to what "King George" has done to embarrass our country in the eyes of the vast majority of the world.....

Oh, my :floor:. I thought Bill was from Arkansas, not Alabama.:funn:

SJ --

This post from you was so disappointing ...
I've read your post for years now ....
At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about you ...
Then, the more I read ... the more I grew to appreciate your knowledge & insight on things ..
You appear to be a very intelligent individual and it's nice to hear your point of view even if I may not agree with it ...
But I must tell you, being from Alabama -- this post really offended me ! It's disappointing to see someone whom I had grown to respect stoop to such immaturity.

Immaturity? It is a joke. I spent much of my life growing up in Alabama and Georgia, and there were always these big rivalries in the South East, between the different states. My other choice was going to be TN, but I decided to pick on kathydwells and JB a little bit, as my more recent pickings had been against TN. I couldn't resist, after seeing the photo of all of the inbred-looking little Bill Clintons. The internet doesn't always convey humor as it is intended. No real offense intended to the fine folks in Alabama. We cannot help where we are born. :funn: Thanks for sharing. ;-)

Even as I type this I am already regretting this - please do not all jump down my throat as I know I will pretty much be the lone voice out here in the south heartland.......BUT

I really, truely, deeply do not care ONE iota about what Bill Clinton did with his personal life while in office. He was IMHO an unbelievably skilled politician who oversaw one of the greatest economic expansions in the US (no need to talk about whether that was luck or public policy, or private enterprise -that is not the point here) who unfortunately squandered a lot of his potential on sex and power and dragged this country into an embarrassing public spectacle. I know an insane amount of time, money and resources was spent on impeachment proceedings and by now we all know about the abject hypocrisy of so many who were calling for his head!

Notwithstanding the very good points SJ raised earlier about politicians ideally valuing and respecting the highest form of public office (and I agree with this) - Bill Clinton was acting in the same way that thousands and thousands of us all act (making point here that more than 65% of Americans supposedly admit to cheating on their spouses) - and I personally do not need to hold a man or woman to higher PERSONAL standards just because they are seeking the presidency - at this point I just crave someone competent.

Like I said, he's probably the most talented politician I'll see, and it's a damn shame he squandered his talent and accomplished next to nothing in 8 years.

I think people are so used to being lied to, that they can't imagine any other way. How a person lives in their personal life is what they are. Anything else is a show, and not real, and just plain lying. So, 65% of Americans supposedly cheat on their spouses? That makes it ok, or acceptable? I think it just means we as a nation are a mess, no wonder our kids are in trouble.

Not a problem Kurt.

But I also find it quite funny that you single me out with this! Have you ever read 6th gen. posts? Talk about someone who thrives on personal attacks and humiliation.....

Perhaps you should throw your attention to him as well.

Stating that, I formally apologize to all of the SoWal community for my personal attack on those who enjoy placing childish cartoons of a President who was superior in everyway to the carbon matter that we have in the Oval Office today.

Now, may I go outside and see if I can get arrested at the Retreat?;-)

I don't single out anyone. I remind people when I see it, or when it is reported. If you or anyone else have a problem with a post you should use the "report post" feature. On another thread you'll see that I made a similar comment to 6th Gen before I made it to you. I have had to warn him before as well and at some point the warnings will stop and the bannings will begin.

Thanks!

No Miss Kitty..I disagree about John Edwards....The grand prize for consummate politition goes to the plastic, wind up Ken doll version of a presidential candidate, Mitt "Mittens" Romney! He is not quite sure where he stands on most issues, but I am sure his advisors will be letting him know shortly!

Funny. I said a few months ago, that Mitt will be the Democrat's favorite in the next election. He is much like Hilary and Obama in the fact that he waits for the opinion polls before stating any positions. He is Republican enough to get their votes, and he is left enough to do fairly well with the Left. We'll see. We still haven't seen all the cards on the table.

For me it wasn't the fact that Clinton cheated - I strongly dissapprove of infidelity and adultery, but it's between him and his wife - it was the manner in which it was done & how he acted after it was discovered.

65% cheat - so sad! Might be one reason why 50% of marriages end in divorce!
