Bill Clinton coming Monday to Destin
July 30, 2007
By Florida Freedom Newspapers

For most of Monday, Harbor Docks restaurant owner Charles Morgan was giving odds of 70-30 that former President Bill Clinton would visit his establishment.
By that evening, the odds had gotten much better, as Clinton's advance team nailed down plans for an exclusive fund-raising event on heavily Republican turf in Northwest Florida.
"Somebody asked 'How did he know how to find y'all?' " Morgan said. "I said, 'Hey, if you're looking to find Democrats in this area, it's not too hard.' "
Only those who produce a check of $2,300 or more will be allowed inside Harbor Docks for the Hillary Clinton fund-raiser, said Toni Craig, who chairs Okaloosa County's Democratic Party. It is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday.
"I asked, 'Well, what about us poor Democrats?' " Craig said. "At the very least, I'll have my Clinton supporters out at the street."
Clinton's wife, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., leads among Democratic presidential hopefuls in Florida, according to poll results released Friday by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research.
She won't be at Monday's event.
She had support from 31 percent of the state's Democrats, compared to 17 percent for her closest rival, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
Florida's presidential primary is Jan. 29.
The former president last visited the area in the late 1990s for an Eglin Air Force Base memorial service honoring victims of the Khobar Towers terrorist bombing.
Morgan said Clinton's plan to visit has generated a lot of excitement in the area.
"The response has been very impressive," he said.
Secret Service agents were scheduled to arrive Thursday to begin preparations, Morgan said.
The restaurant owner did not know exactly what the protocol for such events was, and it was unclear whether media would be allowed to attend the event.
"I asked them how long he planned to speak, and they told me, 'He'll go as long as you've got a microphone in front of him,' " Morgan said. "I'm gonna trick him into playing the saxophone."
Morgan has traditionally been successful at luring big-name Democrats to Harbor Docks.
Bill McBride came to the restaurant in 2002, shortly before emerging victorious in a hard-fought Democratic primary and eventually losing to Jeb Bush in the governor's race.
Presidential hopeful and later vice presidential candidate John Edwards packed the restaurant during a 2003 campaign visit.

For me it wasn't the fact that Clinton cheated - I strongly dissapprove of infidelity and adultery, but it's between him and his wife - it was the manner in which it was done & how he acted after it was discovered.

65% cheat - so sad! Might be one reason why 50% of marriages end in divorce!

That figure sounded way too high, so I had to look it up.
I wasn't surprised to see that the figures for those that committed adultery were a lot lower than 65%. ;-)

It's between him and his wife until he holds a press conference about it.

Mclean's Magazine

"...First, Morris and Clinton agreed, they should conduct a poll to find out whether Americans were prepared to forgive their President. The answer came back no. And so Clinton did not fess up, but instead denied all and sent his supporters out to attack those who doubted him. Only last week, backed into a legal corner by his relentless foe, special prosecutor Kenneth Starr, did he finally admit publicly that he had had an "inappropriate" relationship with the young intern and say he was sorry - sort of.

The speech - perhaps the most important four minutes and seven seconds of Clinton's political life - was bound to be a turning point. Before he gave it, his advisers had clearly hoped that, as he had done so often, he would seize the moment and turn looming disaster into an opportunity for redemption. Americans, went their mantra, are a forgiving people. Given the chance, they wanted nothing more than an end to the appalling spectacle of a President tarnished by constant chatter about "sex acts" steps from the Oval Office, and of "genetic material" indiscreetly left on a dress.

...The open questioning of Clinton's motives after last week's missile strikes against Sudan and Afghanistan emphasized just how much his credibility has suffered. As presidential historian Robert Dallek of Boston University put it in an interview: "For presidents, trust is the coin of the realm. You need it to have any credibility, and how can you create a groundswell in the country or the Congress for anything if you have no credibility?" With Clinton's trustworthiness so badly undermined, concluded Dallek, "Frankly, I think he is largely crippled now."

The President's decision to tell his story to the grand jury came on July 29 - the day after Lewinsky cut her deal to testify in return for immunity from prosecution. But it was only in the few days leading up to his appearance that he apparently came to grips with exactly what he would say - to the jury, to the public, to his daughter, Chelsea, and to his wife. From the moment the scandal erupted in late January, Hillary Clinton has been crucial to her husband's survival. She stood beside him in the Roosevelt Room of the White House as he wagged his finger at the TV cameras and defiantly, unambiguously declared: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky...."

Maybe that was possibly the french!! I could not name the source in the US but what I do seem to recall was that it was higher than 50% IF one included all those who have also divorced because of an affair (have no idea if emotional infidelity is considered cheating!)

Who knows - all I do know is that a ton of people cheat and then will be very vocal about how, in their lives it is OK (because they are really really sorry and will never do it again and God forgives them!!!!) but heaven forbid a POLITICIAN (ohhh ahhhh - bad!!!!)should cheat! The circus around Clinton, the uproar and sanctimonious crap coming out of the mouths of those looking to crucify him was so hypocritical.....

Having said that I do not think it was Ok that Clinton lied to the American people (even if it was only about sex!) - but I am sure no-one on this Board cares to hear much about what I think about the lies Bush has told (and I call his deliberate misleading or misrepresentation of info LYING!).

I hope someone on this Board will go see Clinton spaek and can report back!

I'm with you Chickpea relative to not caring one bit about what Clinton did personally while in office to be frank.

IMHO, society holds figureheads to such high esteem and the pressure must be insurmountable to them. I think also people forget that quite a few figureheads were born and bred (ie; monarchs) for these positions.
They have certain expectations of who they should marry and it almost becomes a business relationship, not one borne out of true and everlasting love.

I recall reading a book about Hillary Clinton many moons ago, and it stated that when she met Bill during Law school, that she told her friends he would be President one day. Did they form a partnership based purely on political gain and power? That's they're business.

I wonder how many people would elect a man or woman lets say for President that were a consummate bachelor or bachelorette?

So how many people lie while under oath during a trial deposition? Is there some unsubstantiated survey on that too?

Had I done what he did in the office with an employee subordinate; I would have been fired in less than 24 hours.

I have no doubt their's is a relationship of convenience and business at this point (IMHO!!) - in a normal world devoid of political ambition why in the hell would she ever put up with his nonsense!

I'm still hoping to hear feedback from the Hillary supporters, regarding why they think that Hillary is so opposed to being in Iraq when Bill Clinton stated in his speech back in Dec 1998, that Iraq was a threat and that we needed to attack them, to prevent them from attacking us. Any takers on this one? :idontno: If a vote for Hill is a vote for Bill, please explain the extreme difference between the two and their thoughts on attacking Iraq.

I think Hillary may be having a good hand dealt to her. She is criticized for voting to attack Iraq and has never been on the 'get out now' bandwagon...if the trend of stability in Iraq continues she is going to come off as having far more gravitas than say Obama (is he having a tough week or what?!) or Richardson. Sure, the hardcore antiwar crowd will stew, but what are they going to do, vote for a Republican?

Please, Bill Clinton, never come back.

Can someone get a high pressure power washer over to Harbor Docks?

Besides the obvious, he:

*Allowed the sale of guided missle technology to the Chinese. Result: now their missles have the capability to hit mainland U.S. cities with great accuracy.

*Upon leaving the White House, he and Hillary looted OUR White House. If she gets elected, will she bring the items back?

*He forced Israel to let Mohammed Atta go free. Terrorist pilot Mohammed Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners".

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands. The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released. Thus Mohammed Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified. It was censored in the US from all later reports.

Clinton Charms Destin Crowd!

http://www.nwfdailynews.com/article/7463/

100 people are hardly a "crowd" down here. There are that many people waiting at the Back Porch for dinner every night at any given time. Also, it sounds like this group included outsiders that are not from around here (Julian Bond?-give me a break!). The "crowd" was hardly reflective of our region.

BTW, since interns still work in the White House, who is going to monitor Bill if Hillary is elected? Seems he would have a lot of idle time on his hands and you know what they say about an idle mind......

I believe she has stated that instead of him being "first gentleman" she would make him a goodwill ambassador overseas.............where they don't care who /what he does!

For the record: I laughed out loud when I saw the picture of "Bills kids", and I am born and raised in Bama. I wasn't offended in the least.

Now, I have an idea. Perhaps if "W" was getting from the Mrs. some of what Bill got from Monica, then he would be a much happier camper and things might be going a little better. I think he might have a little pent up "frustration". I'm just saying.............;-)

Cheaters don't necessarily cheat because they are sexually deprived - sometimes it's just because they're cheaters! ;-)

Oh, I know scooterbug, I was just trying to be funny. I wasn't implying that "W" should cheat, believe me, why would he want to when he has Laura around. I was just trying to make light of the situation. I really DO NOT belong in the political forum anyway. ;-)

Actually, I misread your post, I thought you were saying BILL cheated because he wasn't getting from Hilary what he was getting from Monica!

Agree that good sex would improve everyone's mood!

Girl, I think there should be a law that says these politicians and kings, and queens, and heads of states, and rulers.....etc., etc., need "it" several times a week. I think the country would be much better off. You know "MAKE LOVE, NOT WAR". I really believe this statement. Everyone would be walking around glowing with a big ole smile on their face, and maybe we wouldn't have to worry about someone pushing the button, because they would all be in such a good mood. Just my thoughts on the subject.

According to an article I posted, there is more evidence that we need to get the terrorists laid, rather than the ones they are attacking.
