Theme song of the 30-A beach radio. I think they play it every hour, on the hour. :D

As far as I am concerned that 62 million needs to be used for beach renourishment. It won't take a very big storm to devastate the beaches. That is why people come to the 30-A area. Sounds like the cart before the horse.

i do agree with beacheart that the first $62 million should be spent on beach renourishment

and i do agree with don henley, that "you call a place paradise, kiss it goodbye"

whether it's spending loads of $$ on 30-A, or 6-laning 98, it comes down to the classic conumdrum .... do you build better/more traffic-handling roads and parking, and thereby invite more cars .... or do you leave it alone and therby hope to discourage more car usage?

when i lived in aspen in the late 70s, when we already thought traffic was bad going up- and down-valley (ha!), someone suggested only half tongue-in-cheek that the way to fix the traffic on state 82 was not to four-lane it, but to rip out the 2 lanes of pavement that were there, and turn it back to dirt

30-A traffic problems could be alleviated somewhat by more of us riding bikes and scooters more often, and by more of us simply following the rules of the road .... signalling, actually stopping at stop signs and on stop LINES, yielding to pedestrians .... and, BTW, bicyclists need to follow the rules of the road, too, including stop signs

i feel roundabouts work well in general IF people are intelligent, observant drivers ... if people aren't attentive and courteous, it doesn't matter what traffic controls/guidance are in place, they won't work

I will personally pay $39.95 for each of the two traffic lights at Rosemary Beach to be removed. Now the project will only cost taxpayers $61,999,920.10

Jim,

Florida legislature plans on jumping on all that as soon as they teach us seniors to stop driving around all day with our left turn signals flashing--it's gonna take a while. But on the plus side...they finally did get around to officially designating Key Lime as the Official State Pie!!! :clap_1:

I thought the Sweet Potato Pie was a shoe-in to win it. :dunno:

stop all development south of 30a, by it all at .02cents on the dollar, raze it and make the whole of it from the old school to grayton into a landscaped oceanside park a'la Sanibel City Park with natural untamed primitive beaches and dune ridges with seagrass and open areas of grass grass and live oaks and exquisite gardens and walkovers and boardwalks and pavillions and skateboard parks and playgrounds and museums and culture centers and surfer spots and hippie hangouts - there's your 62 million well spent, and the hordes of tourists that would come would bring many many more millions

way too much greed for it to ever happen, but its a nice dream
I agree. The only alternative is four-lane-highway land like in Destin, Gulf Shores, etc. The reason we bought here is because it wasn't four-lane land. The roundabouts are a ruse. They won't help.

As an aside, how did Rosemary get all of the traffic lights? Only ones on 30A, right? I'd prefer no traffic lights on 30-A, but remember the old days on 30-A when people got ticked off about "big signs" on 30-A. My, how things have changed in less than five years.
