I have been going to the Varsity since I can remember. Daddy and Mr. Gordy were business friends. Mom and Dad always bought our tires at Gordy Tire.
When we were kids, it was a status symbol to see how many "numbers" (the ID of the waiter at the drive-in that was placed on your windshield) you could collect. Then in high school, we girls would go to the Varsity in hopes of picking up cute Tech boys. There weren't too many of those.
"The odds are good, but the goods are odd."
Mom always took us to the Varsity as a treat if we behaved ourselves at the pediatrician (Dr. Davenport). He normally had to sit on me to give me a shot. But she'd take us anyhow.
My all-time favorite (calories disregarded):
2 chili dogs with mustard, no onions
Fried onion rings with lots of ketchup
A large frosted orange (always hard to get that last inch or so out of the cup)
A fried peach pie with ice cream
