I caught a news story on "Idol" last night- about it being such a mean show-and I agree that it has become such a cruel circus. What is the point in having such obviously untalented people be on the show, other than to point fingers and laugh at them? I guess you could argue that it is their 3 seconds of fame, but I still don't see the point when I am sure there were plenty of people with real talent that could have been in their place, and actually competing, instead of being the butt of the judges' jokes. I think the worst part is being made fun of by people like those judges!
I have never been an Idol fan for this reason- it is just too ugly at the beginning of every season.
Sorry for my rant- back to regularly scheduled Idol programming.
Good points Jenay. I also think the producers want these untalented types on air for the ratings. I do enjoy the show itself but have trouble tolerating the try outs.
The other thing that bothers me, is where are the parents of these people? I have always been an encouraging mom. However I wouldn't give false hope to an obviously untalented child. Who would encourage their child into thinking they could be famous just to be belittled and crushed like this?
