No arrows from me...even though I'm a fan. You, cheering, jr,mermy and miss kitty are all right. They do seem to take it to a new level of nastiness each year. But, I think all those early contestants know exactly what they're getting into when they sign up...just a thought. And yes, you are absolutely right in that it's all for ratings..just a thought. :D
And I will continue to watch and will continue to gasp in disbelief at big blonds who go braless & whose mother thinks is sexy.
I bet after all the national flap about the cruelty, there's a lot of furious editing going on before the next show (hopefully).

I don't know about the ratings, but I am sure they are high.

Bdarg hates karaoke. Refuses to go, always has. He says that it makes him feel uncomfortable- people going onstage and getting laughed at and jeered. Now I know what he means- that uncomfortable feeling does not make for fun TV for me. I won't even watch when the real show starts since there has yet to be anyone that I can listen to without rolling my eyes or cringing!

(OK- going to my bunker now to shield myself from the arrows- I am sure my blasphemous Idol views are not popular!!)

No arrows from me either! I LOVE the show but I never really like the auditions as much as when the real singing starts. I know many people who only watch it now and stop when it gets serious. It's totally for ratings at the beginning. I do feel sorry for some of these people but like someone said, they should know what they're getting into. Putting them through to the next rounds just so they can be on tv is boosting some of their self confidence- they start thinking--hey maybe I am really good if I've made it this far! Simon has taken it to a new level of mean and I don't like to see it.

Jenay---have you ever listened to Kelly Clarkson? She's my favorite idol winner.

National flap=ratings. Forget it, it will probably get worse:roll:

I don't think there will be any editing either. That is why American Idol is atop the ratings many weeks because of Simon's comments. That and people enjoy the laughs they get from watching people that can't carry a tune.

It would be fine if being terrible singers was the only thing wrong with these people. They were put on the show because they are freakish and unfortunate in looks and demeanor, and the goal is for people to watch and laugh at them and give the judges some "material" for their stupid comments. I will maybe tune in at the end when it gets "serious" :)roll: ). Right now, it as about as far from a real talent contest as it can get.

To be honest with you jdarg, alot of these people who are on there are convinced to audition by people claiming to be their friends, and these people tell alot of these people they can sing and to go for it, knowing they cannot carry a tune and are going to be the laughing stock. I am sure that goes on. It starts getting serious when it is down to I believe 24. I have watched Idol every season.

Jdarg - Your comments about Idol making fun of people remind me of my daughter's thoughts on "America's Funniest Videos". She wonders why people find it funny when others get hurt. She doesn't get the humor of laughing at another's misery.

As for Simon, he is rude, but Randy is just disrespectful. Simons's comments are honest even though not well said. Randy just laughs and puts the contestant down with body language. Both could lighten up a bit.

The Idol people don't have to put these poor people on the show. It is amazing how many people have fame confused with notoriety, and the producers have found how easy it is to hook these poor chumps and promise them fame, like William Hung. He was the first and last to profit on this show from being a fool. But the blame still falls with the producers.
