ok it was inevitable. my hubby and two girls all had it...now they just got over it and guess who has it? i felt it coming on at work tonight. started out as a runny nose on side side. now im sitting here on sowal at 1:00am not able to sleep with a bit of tp shoved up one side of my nose as it wont stop running. i can feel it all through my head and throat. does anyone know of anything over the counter? it could be just all the pollen right now, but i want something to zap this quick!
sincerely,
sick in sowal

I am told that a few sessions of exercising is good to help you sweat it out. I've also heard that a shot of gin will do the same thing. If the first doesn't help, you're too tired to care. If the second doesn't help, keep drinking until you forget you're sick! :rotfl:

I still haven't gotten over mine, a sinus infection with earaches and teeth aching but no ear infection. I've had it probably 5 or 6 weeks now. I had no fluid in my ears but now all day yesterday I have noticed dizziness. So I think I must have some fluid buildup now in the left ear but am still on my antibiotic. I have 10 pills left. My sore throat is just now going away. I've done a lot of gargling with warm salt water. Hope yours doesn't last long.

Here is the official cure --

1. Time
2. Sleep

To make it bearable to wait it out (it lasts 7-12 days), you'll need --

1. 12 Hour Sudafed, or it's generic equivalent. It's kept in the pharmacy, but doesn't require a prescription. Make sure you get the twelve hour kind, otherwise you are on a constant cycle of it kicking in then wearing off and you can't get any rest.

2. Mucinex DM

3. Tylenol or Aleve

4. Johnson's Soothing Vapor Baby Bath and lots of steamy baths.

5. NeilMed Sinus Flush (a kit you can get at the pharmacy)

If your mucus becomes tinged with green, you need to go to the doctor to see if you might have an infection. Light yellow, opaque mucus is what most people have with this (dead white blood cells from your body fighting off the virus make it look light yellow and opaque), but if it becomes greenish and clear or clear mixed with opaque, you may have developed a secondary sinus infection from being congested for many days in a row. Unless you get a secondary infection, antibiotics are useless against the crud.

Good luck and I hope you feel better!

Well, time I have but sleep I have not been getting. I wake up two or three times every night. I am on prescription Vistaril, I use Tylenol for aches, occasionally an Aleve. But Aleve is a NSAID and my colon on my last colonoscopy showed what they thought was aspirin damage and I do not take aspirin at all. Mainly Tylenol so go figure. And I do have a Neilmed Sinus Flush Kit. But my throat is still sore and red and it has been around 5 or 6 weeks. But I didn't go to the doctor for a good while after developing all of this. Just went not even two weeks ago. I did have the green mucus the entire time. This stuff is not pleasant. I am still not near 100%.

Hope you feel better soon.

I am here to tell you, the Mucinex works....Punzy had some when she was here and made me take it :D
I was getting the crud last week and I took Mucinex and Aleve and Theraflu (at night) I think the Theraflu funally knocked it out!

Make sure that you drink plenty of water with the Mucinex! It works best if you are well hydrated (keeps mucus thin and easier to expel). I actually swear by Mucinex...so does my ENT doc. Get Well Soon!

thanks for all the great help. i actually have mucinex here but was scared to take it since i hate expectorants. but like i said, i am willing to take anything since. i feel about the same, but you know how this crap gets worse at night, especially when you lay down. i went out this mornin to get my little one some meds since shes got it a little still. you know its bad when you sleep in the clothes you wore to work the night before, and then go out to the store in them the next mornin. And i was driving in the 4runner with the tp stuffed in one side of my nose. its my trademark when im sick, i cant stand to keep wiping my nose, so i just keep changing out my snot plug  if any of yall saw me today at winn dixie or tom thumb, or even driving in the car, i apologize:blush:! hopefully i'll feel better for work tonight. so thanks yall!
