I love the name Lily. (I talked my son into naming his puppy Lily, wonder if her paws smell like Fritos, oops other thread) I like Lily Grace and Lily Jane.
Congratulations by the way.

We named our 11 month old Lilly Grace (yes 2 'l's). I think it sounds very melodic.

Check a few websites of top baby names- if you see your choice in the top 10 or 20, you can bet there will be quite a few duplicates when kids get to school. Kate's preschool class had 3 girls with the same first name, so they all had to go by their last initial.

Until we moved here, Will was one of 2 Wills in a school of 1300 kids, but if you looked at the top 10 names for 1992, there were LOTS of kids with those names.

I checked these websites and Lily Skunkape is not in the top 100!!!

One site said that my boys names were #20 and #23 :yikes: There were in the 80's when we picked them! I guess we are trendsetters!

I would stick with a name derived from your own family.

Imagine when the kid grows up and says, "How did you choose my name?"

And you will say, "Well, sweetie, your first name is Lily because your daddy and I thought of you as a beautiful, pure flower...and your middle name came from a guy named Skunkape on a message board."

.

Well, we were going to ask Skunkape to be godfather, but with that attitude we're having serious second thoughts.

My family uses maiden names as kid's middle names. Girls get their mother's maiden name, boys get the maiden name of a grandmother. Fun way to keep names alive and have a unique middle name.

If you want a more mainstream name, I vote for Rose or Marie as a middle name.

When I was in Nashville, I did a lot of work with Harpeth Hall Academy and it seemed like ALL the girls had those names--Anne Miller Smith, Mary Lancaster Buchanon, Jane Turner Johnson--and they all went by both names. It was almost funny, coupled with the uniforms and identical haircuts! Then they would get married and be Mary Lancaster Buchanon Masterson.

I'm making fun of it, but I always LOVED it.
