I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what can I do with old Beanie Babies? My daughter has about 100 in a closet, all with tags still on. For some of them that she just *had* to have, I paid multiples of the retail price. How stupid!

Save them for the grandbabies! My Mom collected them too and I'd be ashamed to tell you how much she paid for the Princess Diana bear. Little did she know they would mass produce them later. We donated several of ours to our church to use for prizes for carnivals, VBS, etc.

This is bird related... ;-)

Today on the way home from church we drove by a pond and noticed the resident swans had babies! I was driving so I turned in and we walked down to see them. (if hubby was driving we probably would have driven straight home) They were so cute!!! The daddy swan was looking fierce and chasing away geese. The mama hissed at us a little but we kept our distance. I snapped a few pics. I couldn't remember what baby swans were called so I looked it up. Here's some interesting swan facts. :D

A group of Swans is called "A bevy, team, wedge, or a flock of swans. ".

They have three eyelids to protect their eyes.

A male swan is called a cob. The female is called a pen.

Baby swans are called cygnets.

Trumpeter Swans will usually mate for life.

Maybe they will all get the bird flu and you won't have to worry about them any longer. :funn:

We have tons from when Will was little- and now Kate plays with them- they are in the "permanent" toy rotation. My MIL collected them- hunted then down, paid too much, etc. etc. Most of her freakin' retirement money is probably spent on collecting this kind of stuff. The grandchildren ae allowed to play with the less valuable ones. I love to watch her stroke out when she sees Kate playing with one of our "rare" Beanies- ones that I have ripped the ear tags off of no less! Horrors! :rotfl:

So- BR-- rip those ear tags off with abandon. It is very freeing. I'm not seeing you dickering with the Beanie Baby dealers trying to fund your retirement, so pack'em away for the grandkids to play with, or keep them handy for when anyone with small children comes over.

Oops- perpetuated the hijack. I do have a flamingo beanie though, and many birds. Hope they don't get the beanie bird flu.:rotfl:

mom has a cabinet with glass doors that open up to keep hers in. she had one of the doors open for some reason one time when we were down there, and dory reached in and got a mouthful of about 6 of them and was carrying them around. we were cracking up and mom kept offering her all these treats (imagine that) to get her to drop them and she wouldn't because she could see how excited it made mom.:funn:

Keep those beanie babies around...you can slit them open and make soup when you run out of canned goods.
