Don't laugh, (okay--you can laugh!) but I'll be teaching art classes starting Monday. I am not a trained artist by any stretch of the imagination. The teacher I'm replacing recommended picking a period to introduce to the students and have them reproduce a masterpiece in pencil, colored pencil, or oil pastels. (This is to reduce clean-up time.)

I'm tempted to go with impressionism or post impressionism. (Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Degas...) Any suggestions? I want them to learn something, but I want them to have some fun, too. They have to have some structure, but I want them to feel free to be creative.

May they use spray cans as a medium?

I loved when my art teacher did pointilism. We never got into serious detail, but it was always interesting to see simple dots create a picture. I think Seurat was a big pointilism artist. Hope that helps a bit... Good luck!

Truffle Anne! I'm being serious! This is my career we're talking about! :nono1:

Actually, that was one of the other suggestions the departing teacher gave me. She said (and I quote) "Go buy a bazillion Q-tips and they'll be tied up for the rest of the year!"

Thanks, Kase--you're always helpful!
