Yes, I am familiar with the distinction between a major network's national programming and its local affiliates' programming.

I am originally from Chicago and have lived in larger metro areas most of my life-it would be nearly possible for a local church to purchase .5 to 1.0 hours of airtime for a prayer service or mass on a major networks local affiliate in those areas. That's a big part of why it is odd to me. This thread is as much about my my surprise that airtime is so affordable as it is to stir the pot with folks for whom it seems normal to watch religion on tv.

Sounds like some may like to watch their religion from a distance but in truth God is with you whether you are in the pews or in the recliner...and in either place we are able to click the sound on or off...I preferr it on..thanks BeachBum for noting our TV networks are as always swayed by the dollar

Hi SN, so would you find it odd for a Muslim prayer service or some other religion to be on a major network?

Yes I would find it odd. Muslim's are very strict about the graven images commandment. It applies to video as well.

Slightly off topic but cable channel 2 right this minute has a very amusing church tv program denouncing heavy metal music. Apparently Ozzy Osbourne is the evil mastermind behind the woes of the world! Really? I have a feeling Sharon has to dress him every day! lol :funn:

Lot of churches cancelled here this morning. Good thing it's on TV squeezed in between all of the ridiculous political fodder.

Church for me today is music and fried chicken with smashed potatoes!

I'm not a fan of church TV except for local services for that very reason. However, we do enjoy "Rejoice In The Lord" from Pensacola Christian College on Daystar at 7 p.m. on Sunday evenings. Phenominal young people, fantastic music, nondenominational and normally a very good message. They do have a little commercial that asks for donations but it is simply to be able to keep it on the air.

Geo - I've always seen Church TV - anywhere I've lived, including Birmingham and other smaller cities. I don't care to watch them, but I have tuned in a time or two, or accidently, just for the entertainment/shock factor. Remember Ernest Angely? Tammy and Jim? oh my goodness - those were indeed bizarre shows. the lives and stories behind the scenes were even more bizarre.

Better than the funniest skits I ever saw on SNL. :funn:
