Man, I am really feeling for y'all! The weather is getting frightful here tomorrow. I enjoy it because it happens so rarely....but believe me when I say the whole city tends to shut down when someone says SNOW!!!

It might be nice. I tend to never believe it till I see it though--you know Troy HAS been wrong before. But you're right about everybody freaking out over a few little snowflakes ..it's amazing!

P.S., Miss Kitty, I made that Cocoa Shortbread tonight-YUM!

I remember a brutal storm in DFW in the days leading up to New Years Eve back in 1984 (easy to remember the exact date because it was right after my first wedding and several family members got stuck there with us!) It was late evening and were driving on 635 from North Dallas towards the airport, very cautiously, as we native Midwesterners have some idea how to drive in the snow - all these crazy people were flying by us and we saw many of them in the ditches as we passed them a few minutes later. By the the next morning, no one was going anywhere (probably a good thing!) I have very vivid memories of a large group of us sitting in the hot tub at our apartment complex and having a snowball fight! Hope it doesn't get too bad for you - winter has technically not even begun yet, and it seems like many of us have had enough already!

Winter storm watch here tomorrow- I think for Mermaid too-

The weather people are starting to get their panties totally in a wad. We are only talking 3-5 inches. The grocery stores will be ridiculous today.

I kinda wish it would snow- it would look so much prettier than just cold and bare!

It snowed a little last night and it looked so pretty. The only nice thing about winter, IMO. Our furnace is on the fritz--again!--so there's no heat in the house. I'm waiting to the stroke of 8 am to call the service people for another repair. Ancient furnaces give me headaches.

Sometimes I don't like winter very much: too cold in our drafty old house, my skin dries up like crazy, and my hair goes flat because there's no humidity to give it a curl. Can you tell I'm testy this morning?

Mermaid: Can you get a humidifier attached to the furnace so it goes on automatically with the furnace. We used to have dry air in the house and then got the humidifier on the furnace and haven't had a problem since. The dry air also made our throats dry and we had lots of sore throats and colds. I don't think it's very expensive and all you ahve to do is change the filter. OUr furnace broke down a few days before Thanksgiving and the house was down to 53 degrees the night before we went away for Thanksgiving. The furnace people were wonderful and fixed our furnace by the time we got back from our Thanksgiving trip. They're definitely getting a big box of chocolates from us this year.

Ohhhh, I feel so bad for you with having no heat! It must be brutal.
Our temp. right now is 0 degrees and a wind chill of -15. It is absolutely horrible.

It was pretty brutal and I'm a bit of a complainer when it comes to cold, especially when the cold is in the house (and not just outside the house). But we survived two cold days in the house and then went away and came back to a toasty house. I am just very thankful to the people who took time the night before Thanksgiving to fix it and checked on the house on Friday as well. It's wonderful to find companies/people you can count on (not all are that reliable).

Anyway, I was so tired of the cold (and it's only early December) that I went out and bought one of those gadgets that lets me start the car and warm it up remotely before I get in it. I even checked to see if it works from my office at work and I can start the car from the 7th floor where my office is down to the first floor of the parking area remotely so it's warm by the time I get in the car. Clearly, I'm losing patience with cold weather...

(By the way, for those of you who helped me decide between a couch or recliner for my new office, I chose the recliner. It gets delivered next week. So, I'll be able to start my car from the recliner...pretty cool)
