Actually they've been steadily gaining viewership since Obama was elected, apparently independents are searching for honest, critical reporting. Politics in this country are based on a cycle. Democrats need to push their party to do the most damage they can do, because their time is limited.

I find it hard to believe that independents hadn't already been steady viewers of Fox prior to the election. I would go so far as to say that at one time everybody watched them. When you're as strong as they are, you reach the point where you're going to stop accumulating viewers. I used to watch it because I felt it was entertainingly ridiculous. I began to realize that it's time in my life I can never get back, so I quit. I have talked with others who feel the same way. [Edit] BTW, I know that Colmes is gone. Does hannity have a new punching bag, or is he all alone.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I pity anyone who has actually been brainwashed enough to think a man's choice of condiment is news.

They are the same people who think that the world should know ever time Britney Spears passes gas, Lidsay Lohan falls off the wagon, or Brad and Angelina have / adopt a kid.

I think it makes perfect sense. If you watch the nightlies or CNN or MSNBC, Obama's administration gets glossed over. People want to know what's going on.

O'Reilly is a journalist. He'll be the first to tell you that. Maybe he's an entertaining journalist???? I don't know the characters, but the AM show on Fox drives me nuts. The afternoon CNN guy seems like a jerk.

There's a news hour on PBS that a friend of mine watches.......I might try that.

Bingo. Fox News President Roger Ailes had a TV background before he entered political consulting, but he spent many years as a paid GOP shill. I personally can't "gloss over" the fact that Ailes teamed with Lee Atwater during the 1988 campaign and participated in all sorts of tactics that Atwater actually apolgized for on his deathbed a few years later. Actual, real, in-the-trenches journalists (even the food critics) aren't supposed to even have political stickers on their cars.

It is kind of like if George Soros owned NBC and hired Arianna Huffington as president of MSNBC. Who knows? Maybe that is where we are heading. But Fox should not pretend it doesn't have an inherent bias that comes from the top.

Actually they've been steadily gaining viewership since Obama was elected, apparently independents are searching for honest, critical reporting. Politics in this country are based on a cycle. Democrats need to push their party to do the most damage they can do, because their time is limited.

Their ratings are up because they are playing to the crowd that is deeply suspicious of Obama, whether it is because he is an unashamed liberal, or too young and inexperienced, or other less-high minded reasons (and you know that those folks make up about 10 percent of the opposition).

I think it makes perfect sense. If you watch the nightlies or CNN or MSNBC, Obama's administration gets glossed over. People want to know what's going on.

By definition, everything on TV gets glossed over. Everything! There is no time for analysis. Just present the side that the producer likes and then fail to elaborate on the backstory or the details.

I sat in a hotel room in Mexico trying to get any decent information on the swine flu outbreak from either CNN or Fox News and was utterly disappointed. TV news doesn't really examine anything. Anderson Cooper is probably a little bit better than most because he pretty much appears to be agenda-free and actually has a good-sized group of analysts with opposing views. But again, all gloss and reactive journalism that doesn't make you think very hard.

My current fave is Fareed Zakaria's GPS show on Sundays. He has been writing with depth, intelligence and fairness for years, and I like his interviewing style. Fareed is wicked smart and not in any way a knee-jerk leftist. There is a danger of him becoming a caricature of himself though ... last week he used the end of the show to push his book. :sosad:

That's a little scary. It sounds like the increase in viewers can be attributed to former non-news-watchers. That doesn't speak well of Fox credibility if they're capitalizing on the emotions of the ignorant and misinformed.

That's rich. I'm not surprised at attempts of discrediting Fox though, number like this must really frustrate liberals.
