To all who posted - many many thanks!! You have given me invaluable information and saved me a TON of time researching!!

This is now the first place I think of turning to when I need advice!! Amazing.

Thank you again.

Your little one and I had a cute discussion about your trip at school last week. I said, "So you're going on a trip pretty soon?" She said, "No." Then I thought maybe I had ruined a surprise when she said, "I'm going to Disney World!" She's so sweet.

Awwww...she is a cutie! :D
Chickpea...have a WONDERFUL time! My suggestion to you is....plan out your day with the kids...do what they really want to do first! You will spend alot of time standing in line, or you might want to spring extra $ for a guide that will get you into the rides and shows without having to wait.
For your age kids...don't bother with Epcot this time around. (I love Epcot...but it is better for adults)
The character meals are ALWAYS a huge hit with the kids!
Make sure you take disposable ponchos with you (cheap at wallmart, expensive at the park) Don't take an expensive camera is also my suggestion. I would use waterproof disposables.
Carry a small backpack instead of a purse.

We just got back from WDW last week and had a fantastic time!!! We stayed at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. It was a one bedroom villa with: a king bed, separate whirlpool tub & shower, small walk in closet, a sleeper sofa, a full kitchen and washer/dryer in the room. You can also book a 2 bdrm villa - the 2nd bdrm has 2 queen beds and it's own full bathroom.

If you plan on staying all together this might work out - depending on how much you want to pay for a room. The Wilderness Lodge has boats that go to the Magic Kingdom, and the Contemporary (where you can catch the Monorail).

Book that character lunch TODAY!!!! Needs to be at the top of your to-do list! (I'm not kidding:shock:)

If you go to Epcot (and Kate loved Epcot at age 4), the Princess lunch in Norway at the Akershus restaurant is so special. All princesses, and not too chaotic. You might have an easier time getting into this one.

We've been to disney a few times and have never stayed on the property. It's usually at whatever hotel my husband's convention is in. And last year we stayed in a time share over by the town of Celebration. (I loved hanging out in Celebration on our Disney day-offs!) The hotels I remember was the Sheraton World -- which is no longer owned by Sheraton. But I wouldn't really recommend it anyway. And the Peabody Orlando hotel - which was amazing!! (But I think pretty expensive, because as soon as the convention was over, we had to move on to the Sheraton World).

The best advice I can dispense for Disney World (And it really applies to any travel) is to leave somethings for your next trip. Trying to do it ALL is really overwhelming and exhausting. And thinking you HAVE to do it all because this is the only time you'll be there makes the trip miserable. So, I always purposefully leave a few things undone so that when we come back we'll have some new experiences. And if you never come back, well then clearly you didn't miss those things enough to make a return trip.

But they are right . . .BOOK THAT PRINCESS DINNER RIGHT NOW!!! (Luckily, we have boys and don't have to worry about that so much!)

I agree, dont waste time at all. The people on the phone will be very helpful with finding a character lunch for you.

Little IBD also loved Epcot. They have a new Nemo exhibit that is geared to kids, she also loved the countries. Norway? and Mexico have rides....
Oh, and in the Living with the Land you have to go on the tour where they do the hydroponics, it is really cool... There is something for kids at Epcot you just have to find it. Everything is not so.....Magic Kingdomized....

It makes for a much more relaxing day. Sea World is an easy wonderful day too- no tears, no lines, no crowded walkways.

My other fave trick if you are not staying on a monorail line- book the Polynesian Hotel character breakfast. Park your car in their lot, eat breakfast, and bypass the Ticket and Transportation Center (always try to avoid this if you can) by taking the monorail from the Polynesian over to Magic Kingdom. At the end of the day, walk right on to a monorail returning to the hotels, and wave at everyone else standing in long lines to get back to the T&T! This could work for breakfasts at the Contemporary and Grand Floridian too.
