Hello, peeps! I've missed you!
TCM...love me some TCM. I don't put anything less than 10 years old on my official list. I watch a lot of old movies at Christmas, whether they're Christmas movies or not. Watched a couple I've never seen this year--Christmas in Connecticut, (the old one), Holiday Affair, and Never Say Goodbye. That last one was a romantic comedy with Errol Flynn. I'm in love with Errol Flynn now...too bad he's dead.
Why does no one show the Natalie Wood 34th Street anymore? It's so much better than either remake!
I love It's a Wonderful Life for sentimental reasons (one of my oldest friends and I are still "old building-and-loan" pals,) and I really like the similar story that came out a few years ago, The Family Man. (It still has a couple more years before it makes the official list.)
I always watch Meet Me in St. Louis (the real version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" should make anyone sob!) and The Bells of St. Mary's, even though neither are completely set at Christmas. They always show them at Christmas, so they became a tradition. Meet Me... also has a terrific Hallowe'en scene!
I watch The Bishop's Wife every year and freak out every year over how much Loretta Young and Cary Grant remind me of Hop's parents.
And, yes, The Muppet Christmas Carol is, hands down, the best version of that story...
Merry Christmas!
