It is the best location to me it's at the end of Duval Street (you must do one of the Duval Bar Crawl tours) close to Mallory Square, the Conch train tour, it really is a town you don't have to have a car for. We always just rent those little electric cars to scoot around.
Are the Mary on the half shell like we have here in NY?
Franny, can't offer any advice since I have never been to Key West, but do want to go, so when you book that extra room for Tootsie count me in.

I've been to the Keys a couple of times over the past month.
For Dinner, try Carolines. It is on Duval Street (500 block I think). Great Carribbean food. The atmosphere is truly laid back similar to Cozumel, Jamaica, Bahamas, etc.....open air......chickens walking around.....and the food! Great and Cheap.
Try the Kingston Chicken. Half a chicken (spread eagle) grilled with excellent herbs, black beans, rice and fried plantons.....I had a REAL margarita and the total was under $15.00! One meal could feed Two....
