First, Fox News is far, far more populist than it is conservative. Also, I think most of you have confused with the editorial portion of the network with the news portion. Brit Hume is an excellent journalist, or at least ABC thought so.
As for the Falwell death announcement, he is, in effect, the founder of the Religious Right. I assume if anyone was upset about the alert, then they'd also be upset if an alert popped up for, say, Rand, Marx or FDR.

I agree with this point. I find Sean Hannity to be an unbelievable tool and totally repulsive, but he is a commentator. I don't have a problem with news folks Brit Hume or even Shepard Smith, as goofy as he may be. (Brit does some analysis and he's usually not too far right of center with what he says.) The DC reporters are pretty straightforward. I don't watch them in the morning so I can't comment, but there is a line between their news content and their commentaries. I have not watched too much of their actual war news coverage though, and I wouldn't be surprised if it held back a little on the awfulness of what's happening over there.

If Fox is so poorly managed and so unpopular w/the "majority"...How do a lot of you know the programs in such detail (which bimbo replaced Edie)...and why do they consistently rule cable ratings in EVERY prime time spot...Are you really of the opinion that those of us that watch are just "rubes" and you're so much more enlightened...Its funny to me that those who criticize would seek to limit the private enterprise of Fox News and talk radio...If the views were so unpopular, wouldn't the sponsors walk, thereby making the shows unprofitable and the network subsequently bankrupt...Oh right, that was Air America...my bad

They play Fox News in waiting rooms because it is louder, has more music, etc. I am not saying that is good or bad, just a fact. CNN, MSNBC are more sedate and not nearly as entertaining to people already looking at their watches. My life seems so much more pleasant because I don't have cable TV, but I must say that when given the chance I have a hard time watching Fox newscasts because every story seemingly has an orchestral lead-in fitting of an Indiana Jones action sequence.
Now, I didn't see what Fox did or did not do regarding Falwell, but to minimize the man's impact on our times is to ignore fact, whether you agreed or disagreed with him on the issues.
And redfisher is right, for all the people who seem to moan about Fox, they kick rump in the ratings game. Analagous to the National Enquirer I imagine-read by millions but nobody you know, right!
Chickpea-be fair and balanced-report to the board what the approval ratings for our congress are currently....I think most would be a little surprised!

Fox is popular for the same reason Cops, Jerry Springer, Nancy Grace, and other gossip shows are. They are sensationalist shows and their viewers love to see others worse off than they are. A pretty cancerous and cyclical cycle to embroil oneself in. Sponsors go where the viewers are, they could care less about realism or quality.
If I want the facts, and I do, I read The Economist. Television is infotainment and I remember to take it as such. I have my favorite tv programs and a few fictional ones I really like, but I don't attach my ego or personal beliefs to them as strongly as some may suggest.

Cancerous is a strong word for someone who doesn't attach personal beliefs...And BTW, the Economist is the Time magazine of the business community...And I do profess to watch Fox exclusively...

I turn off the waiting room tvs whenever possible. Most are mounted low enough you don't even need to find the remote.
