Good luck, jdarg. You'll feel so satisfied when it's done!

I have never been chic and never will. I just want to be comfortable.
I don't go to any one store; I tend to just wear the same thing over and over again until it's irreparable.
I will say that I like silk, and I've occasionally found some really good sale things at Needless Markup and Tommy Bahama and other non-chain fancy schmancy stores.
But mostly I just wear a lot of cotton t-shirts. ;-)

Yesterday was wonderful, but tiring. It was like a big party! Had 2 kinds of shoppers- those stocking their booths at antique and flea markets, and those looking for bargains on "necessary" things. Lots of happy little kids getting some great stuff for not much of their allowance.

Then we had my mother holding court on the couch in the driveway, telling my neighbor that he should buy the trenchcoat so he could flash her.

Although we sold about 90% of our stuff, there is still lots of good stuff for Goodwill. I don't think winter outerwear and clothes were very popular yesterday since it was 90 degrees and totally humid. So the rest will be dropped off in a bit, and the real fun begins- getting this house ready to go on the market next week!

Just wondering do they not have those kinda places (Caring and Sharing, Goodwill, etc.) in Ky and Ga? I am also just having fun. I know sometimes a buck is needed any way you can get it. I had a gallery/furniture/funk shop for ten years. I guess you could say a bona fide garage sale year round. My experiance with the garage sales was at the end of all of it I always lost money... :bang: Seems easier to have them take it away and end my pain. Plus the removal of clutter allows my mind to free up. Free mind equals more money :D

We do. Apparently, they get so many donations they can afford to just not show up. I get calls quite frequently by charities asking for household items and clothes. The AKF is the latest one. I agreed to place my donation marked with their name in the agreed on location. My front porch. I was home all day. They never showed. I did take that donation to a local shelter. My experience is,if a charity calls asking for items for pick up is 9 times out of 10 they never show up.

But, on the other hand we do have great sucess with garage sales. :dunno:

The animal shelters always need old linen items. That is another one of my piles downstairs- sheets, towels, etc. to be taken to them. When I adopted my dogs, I was told that they never have enough of this stuff.

YAY, Jen-ay!!!! Everyone's a winner! I hate to admit this, but the most funn for me after one of those sales was to count the money.

So, now...we are off to move sarafunn to Austin. Looks like we should have a sale as well. I am waiting for the moving truck to come here after it loads up her apt. Then we hit the road to send sarafunn off on a new adventure...GRAD SCHOOL! :clap_1:

You mean the way they're always repeating themselves? :rotfl:

that, and the way men avoid having yard sales like the plague... it means a lot of work for them hauling stuff out, then hauling the leftovers somewhere. they think they will have to do all the work, even though they certainly do not...

we haven't done a yard sale in years - kurt refuses. he hauls it to the goodwill, then we don't have to worry about it. But, its ashame to miss out on making extra cash from all the crap we get rid of every few months!!!

just after we married (many moons ago) we had a yard sale where we got rid of a lot of our combined stuff - much of it redundent, old college crap, or even wedding gifts we didn't need to haul with us. It was a LOAD of stuff. Kurt had it completely organized, everything priced, with some items in boxes with one price. I think the secret to our sale was to Advertise (as a huge moving sale - not estate sale - you don't want to put off anyone), put up signs, and start at the crack of dawn. By noon, re-evaluate and really be ready to slash prices or give away (it's over by then). hopefully you will get an offer from someone to haul off the remaining items. Or you can call Goodwill or whatever organization is in your area and let them know ahead of time that you may want them to come by that afternoon to get the rest of the stuff...

clothing is a real tough one. I would just do kids, and maybe some of the more "nifty" adult items. Or just throw them all in a box with $1, or whatever. Purses and shoes may go.

drinking will definitely help. coffee, that is...

good luck!!!:D
:clap_1: Good for you Kurt! (nothing personal Tootsie! )
