Guess it is time to jump in with my usual PSA that I post on every gun rights thread...

Everyone with guns in your house- please take the time tonight to make sure that there is absolutely, positively NO WAY a child could gain access to any gun in your house. And if your child goes on a playdate to a house that you think might have guns in it, do not hesitate to ask where they are kept.

If you are able to quickly get to your loaded gun that you keep in your bedroom for protection, your child will be able to get to it quicker (and most likely already knows where it is- kids are snoops). Gun accidents with kids are completely preventable and should never happen.

If you are going to shoot someone, you aim for the biggest target - their torso, not their kneecap, their big toe (have you heard the word ricochet?) or their pinky finger.

You aim for their manlihood, or lack of it. Woman never miss.

Keep and Bear arms...even in National Parks you do not give up that Right to the Power of the state.

And please. Teach your children gun safety. A properly educated child is a very good preventative measure that goes hand and hand with others.

I don't know aren't national parks federal jurisdiction like Indian reservations? I would think states rights would be trumped, just like we're allowed to gamble on reservations even in states where gambling is illegal.

Hunting is allowed in many national parks. Part of the point of hunting is population control of some of the critters. Far better than watching them starve to death should their population become greater than the carrying capacity of the area.

Let me interject something that hasn't come out in these threads that I personally consider to be true. I also know that it's one of the major positions of folks like the NRA, but I do believe it to be true. (I am not an NRA Member)

If I'm Joe criminal and I'm thinking I need to go rob someone so I can be lazy, do drugs, be mean or whetever it is that drives these nut jobs decision making, I am going to be less inclined to enter a home (or tent or camper) if that place looks at all like it might be someone who hunts or owns a gun.

Why did the hiker attack a woman in the article posted earlier? He was 61 years old and he figured he had better odds with a woman.

Someone planning to break into a home doesn't just drive 8 miles from where they live and then enter the 3rd home on the right. They no doubt take a little time to feel comfortable that the odds are possibly in their favor. They don't attack the home with metal grates over the windows or the ones with the security system signs in the front yard and probably not the one with an old chevy up on blocks. They want one they can get in and out quickly and one that is likely to have something of value to the criminal. All the better if they intend to rob an occupied home if they know a woman or elderly person is there.

I own several guns including a handgun and consider myself very schooled in their use. Should my home be invaded, I would only consider turning the gun on the intruder if there was a direct threat. What I was taught to do with a gun is let the intruder know full well that I had one and would use it and if I got into visual contact with them and they weren't running for the door, I probably would fire it.....right into the floor or bookcase or something remotely close to the intruder. If things went right and they got showered with a few splinters, They'd be quickly on their way to the local laundrymat to get their shorts washed.

I can also say that I've lived confronting someone who entered my home during the night and I did not need to pull the trigger.
