Mine is a totallly different response than the others, so don't blast me for my opinion. Let the child sleep on a pallet by the bed. Then work him out of the room.. Both of my girls slept with us, and we DID find time for us :clap_1:. I asked a psychologist friend about it, and her response was that in many countries children sleeping with parents is normal and not uncommon. In our country it is taboo. We both worked, and losing a hour or two of sleep over crying was just not worth it. Both girls left of their own free will. I think back and realize (with both of them gone) that it was not so bad. They are very secure and self confident. Do what you need to do to survive.

This and the "family bed" are coming into practice in the US.

I've thought a little about it and think it can be a very good thing. Security and love are good and common sense really. Then again - insecurity and independance is probably what made America great. But imo, America would be greater with more love and self worth.

Fear is the enemy.

Sea Star, I work in the court system and see this happening more and more often. One of my friends is also raising her grandchild, what a blessing this child has been to her. I commend you and your husband for undertaking something you never thought you would have to do. Just goes to show that we never know what the future has in store for us. Much success to you and your husband.
 Thanks, dbuck. We are going to need everyone's good wishes and prayers.

 You said it LL. This past September, at the age of 51, Mr. Sea Star and I found ourselves among the growing number of grandparents raising the grandchild. We literally received a 6 month old, out of the blue, with no advance notice. We were blown away (what's going to happen to retirement, etc.) but I wouldn't trade our little Sofia for anything in the world. We have survived, have a beautiful nursery, all the baby equipment we need, found a great day care so I can continue working, have developed a routine that works for us and I feel 20 years younger. Having a child at our age was never in our plans, but parenting is so much easier for us than it was when we were in our twenties. And when that alarm clock goes off, and I don't think I can get up and do it one more day, that beautiful smiling face changes my whole world.[/QUOTE]

Hats off to you :clap_1: It will rewarding for many years to come.

Are you kidding? One of my regrets in life is that I will never get the chance to try "The Recipe" since the Baldwin Sisters have most likely been dead for years!!!! :rotfl:

This is why I was alway's I was so scared to sleep with my son in the bed with me.

DELAND, FLORIDA -- A 3-week-old baby who was sleeping in his parents' bed died after his father apparently rolled onto him, sheriff's officials said today.

"This appears to be a very tragic, accidental death," sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said. But an autopsy has been planned to confirm the cause of death.

Sheriff's dispatchers received a 911 call about 5:20 a.m. reporting that a baby wasn't breathing. When emergency officials arrived at the Sleepy Oak Lane home, Melvin Finke was holding his son, Cole Finke, and attempting to perform CPR.

Paramedics continued CPR efforts, but the baby was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.

The parents, Melvin, 39, and Kelly Finke, 36, said they went to sleep about 12:30 a.m. in the master bedroom with the baby. When Kelly Finke awoke about 5 a.m. to feed the baby, she noticed he wasn't breathing.

So, So sad.
